Default 1973 Trim Tag/Data Plate question

I am looking at buying a 1973. However, the Trim Tag is missing from the door jam. It is an original motor car. Lookis to be original color and trim. Is there any way to get a replacement trim tag for the car? Or is the missing trim tag no big deal?

thanks Al

Is there a story as to why the origiinal tag is gone? Repaint? Color change?

If you do not intend to have the car judged and do not mind the missing tag, no harm done.

Without the original tag, it could be difficult to determine the original color combination.

Missing trim tag could be a sign of wreck repair. Look closely.

Have you talked to the owner? He/she may have the original tag or know the story about why the tag is missing.

Well, that is some cause for concern. Justification for being a little more curious and checking it out well. Also make sure there are no title 'issues'. You can always get another trim tag made with the data you want on it. That isn't a 'legal' issue to be concerned with. Just Google "trim tag 1972 Corvette" and see what comes up. There have to be vendors who replace those items.

it is no big deal except for resaleability, which is exactly what you are concerned with regarding the current owner. and the same thing you will have to hassle with finding a buyer for it later down the road..

negotiate down to mitigate this risk..

Hi Al,
The more 'original' the car is the more important the trim tag is.
For 'modified' cars the trim tag doesn't mean a thing.... unless a new owner wants to go back to 'original', then the trim tag becomes critical again.
Regards,
Alan

Default Trim Tag

thanks for everyone"s help and advice. The vin and proper suffix are stamped on the pad on the block. the proper code is on the trans. It is an aftermarket intake and carb with headers. It needs a front bumper, windshield and interior put back together. all there. paint is "not good" but presentable. I can buy it for 5500. any thoughts please?????

thanks Al

If you can remove one of the rear side interior 1/4 panel trim pieces, you should see paint color there. If different from the exterior, then you'll know the original color. Takes 5 minutes to remove. Or remove a sill and lift the carpet a bit.
Can you post some pics?
See if you can track backwards from owner to owner and find out what happened to the trim tag.

Default trim tag

guy has come down from 7500. lots of work done to it already. motor rebuilt, trans worked, front suspension done, lots and lots of new interior parts. I am going from pictures and will go Tuesday to hopefully pick it up. Only two missing items, windshield and front bumper cover (damaged pulling it onto a trailer).

I'll try and post some pics. If I do get it, I will probably be looking for lots of help putting it back together :-). Dash panel (gauges) has been removed and wires all over the place. supposedly all still connected, just needs put back together.
