Im just looking for a breather for my valve cover, i dont have the car around to measure the size of the hole and i would like to be able to order the part before i get to be around the car again...
Here is a pic of my valve covers, they are standard GM covers.
I think the hole is 1-1/4" but id like to make sure.
Thanks a lot.
Also, do i need to take the cover off to take the tube out? Is it screwed from inside or can i just pull it out and push the breather in?

Your valve covers look like Chevrolet LT-1/L-82. They do not have factory breathers. PCV in the left; air cleaner base connection in the right.
Hey, i do know that, the problem is that since i dont have a stock air cleaner the air cleaner base connection is now not connected to anything.
I am just afraid its going to suck in some crap in the engine and id rather swap it for a push on breather!
I am going to keep the PCV as it is though.
Dont know if its actually bad to not have a filter on there, but i guess its there for a reason!

The hose that goes into your air cleaner will serve as the "breather". If you get any blow-by out of that hose, it will show up as oil stains on the air filter by that hose. Putting another breather into those LT-1 covers would be a waste of time and money.
I know that, im not trying to add another breather!
I am just worried that the hose without a filter ( its NOT going into the air cleaner, and cannot go into the air cleaner) will let unfiltered air into the engine and cause problems...
I just want to swap the hose for a breather with a filter!
Is it worth doing or is the fact that i dont have a filter on this hose not a problem?

That unfiltered air is not going into the intake manifold and valves...it's only going into the interior of the engine. Unless you are in a sandstorm, that shouldn't be a risk. The original setup had the hose going into the air cleaner housing...but it wasn't filtered either. If you feel better about it having a breather, knock yourself out.
I didnt know that, i thought it was going into the engine the same way the air going through the filter was!
Well, i guess ill just leave it as it is then.
Thanks
That is exactly what i want to do, my question was " what is the size of the hole"...
I saw loads of breathers like that but they have a lot of different sizes!
Most of them are 1-1/4" and most after market valve covers have 1-1/4" holes!
I just wanted to make sure that original GM valve covers have a 1-1/4 hole, thats it!

Two points.
That crankcase intake does have a plastic and gauze filter (in white) where the intake is outside the normal air filter (as shown). Hence the push-in type I suggested above. On my old 1967 327/300 the intake spout was inside the diameter of the air filter and had a spark arrestor but no filter (the normal filter did the job).

Thanks a LOT!
Do you know if i can just pull on the hose and get it out with the grommet without taking the valve cover out, or do i have to take it off and get it by the inside?
I just pulled the steel tube out of the grommet for the pic. The grommet comes out with a little help/squeeze from a screwdriver. On the bottom side is a lip that has to be released. (Be careful not to put excess pressure on the aluminum.) But the grommet should pop out quite easily.
