I see their ads on TV alot but do they back up what they preach ???
The ads go by pretty quickly and it looks like there is alot of "fine print" that you do not have time to read ...
anyone have any experiences with them ...I travel alot down lots of empty stretches of roads here in S.Central tx.
Dealers can be as far as 100+ miles
I lost a HPOP ( high pressure oil pump which fires the injectors ) in my '05 F250 Diesel and luckily one of my fellow employees lived in the next town 60mi. away and pulled me to the Dealers there
I have had AAA for 22 years. Once you qualify ffor Gold membership you have 4 calls per year. 100 miles towing to shop of your choice. I think platinum may get 200 miles. You can also get discounts with the card.
I have my auto insurance through AAA. They offer several insurance options including Travelers And Progressive at discount rates.
We have a GPS but always get a free trip tic just as a back up.
AAA is OK. But call them and ask for some program info so that you know exactly what is covered and what is not. I have it...primarily for the wife when she is driving alone.
I don't think AAA has "agreed value" insurance coverage available for your C3, so I wouldn't want them for car insurance on the 'Vette. Many 'collector car' insurers have road coverage included...but not for 100 mile tow. They may be able to add a rider to the coverage for additional tow miles. Note: If you have a navigation device, I don't think the old AAA "Trip Tiks" are of much value anymore.

AAA is a good company and I had used them in the past. The only problem is; if your'e way out in the middle of no where, you have to tell them what the closest "big" city is to you. If you're like me, many time while traveling, I have no idea. My wife's car broke down one time while we had AAA. We told them what we thought was our nearest city. They use that for dispatching a tow truck. We ended up waiting almost 3 hours for a truck to arrive. That truck towed her to a local shop, only 10 minutes away,...that had a towing service!!!
When I talked to the customer service rep about this, she explained that they only have certain towing company's on their call list and based on our city reference, the clsoet one was an hour away and it was alredy out on a tow when they called them. They do not roll to a secondary truck if that one is busy,..you just wait.

Its been a few years since I have ordered a Trip Tik, but even with GPS the benefit of the Trip Tik was detailed road construction information. Even with newer GPS units that get live traffic and delay updates it's still nice to have a paper copy of road work if you are taking a long trip.

A good friend of mine owns a tow company. He won't do AAA tows anymore because, according to him, the reimbursement is slow to come and isn't enough to merit their involvement anymore. Alot of good tow companies are no longer involved. I used to have AAA, and when I used it, they were very slow to arrive and certainly didn't know how to properly load a Corvette.
As was stated, Trip Tiks are not a big deal now with GPS and the internest/Map Quest etc.
I dont have the Corvette insured with AAA. Well actually I do have a liability policy with them. But the agreed value policy is through Hagerty. If your GPS breaks, is stolen or you get caught in extreme weather sometimes you cant get a signal. I bet an old trip tic would be very handy then. Not to mention the construction and speed trap information they inform you about.
As far as towing if your car will not start, is licensed and registered they will tow it. If you run out of gas hey will bring you 2 gallons. If you lock your keys in the car they will unlock your door.
If you use the card for discounts it will pay for itself. I get discounts at Valvoline Instant oil, NAPA, autoparts, Pizza Hut and many others. Granted it is not the unlimited tows of old days it is still a good value.

I have the equivalent in Canada--CAA and wouldn't be without it. They were great the other year when they towed my Jeep over 200km about 150 miles at no cost! They were quick, courteous and down right friendly. Wouldn't hesitate to use them at any occasion.
Good Luck

It is good to have when the kids are away at school. You can feel pretty helpless when they call with a car problem that any one of us could fix.
My son was about 100 miles away. He had borrowed our van to load it up and move home for the summer. The van just died one day and at first he had it towed to the house he was renting.
No success trying to troubleshoot it over the phone. The spring semester ended and we just had it towed to our home.
He packed it up with all his stuff for the summer and rode home in the flatbed.
I've had AAA for about 25yrs now and have used their services a couple times.Even used it for the vette once, just tell them you need a flat bed no tow truck.I also used to use them for free travelers checks.I don't know if they still offer that though.Get the 100 mile if you can.

I've had them for twenty years. Never had a single problem, even when I had a dead battery of needed a two for the Covette which I specified a ' Flat-Bed' and it took about 3/4 of an hour, but they came and I have the premium plan which guarantees a tow up to 50 miles where-ever I wanted. I'm happy with them.
AAA for many, many years. I only count on them for two things, towing and DMV services. For me just on time of not having to go to the real DMV is worth the membership.
I've been with AAA for 25 years and they have always delivered. The vette has been towed twice by them and both times they showed up with a flatbed and hooked the car up proper.
AAA does offer an agreed value policy, though its underwritten by a partner company. It doesnt have usage restrictions like some classic policies have.
I have no experience with making claims on that policy, I cover my other vehicles under a normal AAA policy and they have always come through like champs when a claim needed to be made.
I had progressive for a short period of time while living in VA. and based on their performance and customer service attitude, you couldnt pay me to go back to them.

My experiences have been that AAA is friendly, know what they're doing, and try to help you. The DMV personnel tend to be sullen and likely will try to use the rules and regulations to thwart you.
Anecdote: My 68 had been last registered in 1986 in California. I had lost all paperwork for it; i.e. no title. I did have the license plate showing a 1986 registration sticker. The car was no longer in the DMV computer system. Also, I had never filed the form telling the DMV the car was no longer being driven. Hypothetically I was liable for all the registration payments from 1986 to 2008! The lady at AAA had me fill out a affadivit to file with the DMV explaining why the car had not been registered for 22 years. She also processed a title application for the car showing me as owner. Finally she had me drive the car to their parking lot and she went out and gave the car an inspection. She overlooked the fact that all the factory smog equipment was missing. She complemented me on the car's appearance. I left AAA with to-date license plates and registration, and a legal title. I don't think this story would have had a happy ending at the DMV.
I have had AAA for the last 17 years, wouldn't be without it.
Back about 8-9 years ago I stopped by a tavern where a buddy was celebrating his Birthday, I ended up staying longer than planned and consumed more than the 'legal limit' The tavern was about 6 miles from home and I would have had to take major arterials to get home.
I popped the hood, removed my rotor and called AAA, the driver showed up and asked what was wrong with the car, I showed him it wouldn't start and he loaded it up and took me and my car safely home.
BTW we passed about 3 Cops on the way home.
So in a pinch, they can save thousands of $ and a DUI.
If I break down and can't get going on my own, I have AAA in my cell phone. If I have cell service, I will call AAA and purchase a package to fit my needs at that point. Then ask them to send out a tow truck. No sense buying it until I need it.
