Introduction and first question
I just bought our first Corvette, a 72 L-48, 4 speed car for my wife and we're pretty excited about the upcoming delivery. I'm traditionally a Ford guy, but more than that, we're just car folks. We have a 32 Ford pickup and a rotisserie-restored 66 Mustang convertible. Looking forward to learning all about these orange-engined classics. I know I'll learn lots here, and hope I can contribute in general restoration techniques when I can.
Okay, first question. We don't have the car yet, but in looking at pictures, I notice the climate control panel on the console has two wheels that appear to point to the same label in the center. What do the two wheels do? Is this really dual zone climate control? 40 years ago?
Okay, two questions. Seller claims the wiper door operates, but wipers don't. Where should I start with the troubleshooting when it gets here?
Thanks in advance,
Mark
BTW, Mberglo is a more convenient way to spell Emberglo, which is the color of my 66 Mustang.
Id start with the fuse...then the wiring...then the motor...etc..
Best of luck with your car...and this is the place to find answers...lots of guys on this forum forgot more about Corvettes than I'll ever know...

One of the two wheels controls temp-hot/cold, the other which duct the air comes out, defrost, floor etc. Nothing exotic.
The wiper door is vacuum operated, the wipers are electric. Possibly the valve that ensures that the wipers are 'home' before the door closes is jammed or misadjusted.
Get a troubleshooting guide to isolate the correct component.
72.... NICE!!!!
If you're going to be doing some 'tending' on your new car (even if you're not) I'd like to suggest you buy a couple of books.
First, the GM CHASSIS SERVICE MANUAL, which is the book the techs at the dealers used. There's one for each model year.
Second, the AIM, the ASSEMBLY INSNSTRUCTION MANUAL, which was used on the production line in St. Louis. There's one for each model year.
Third, the 72 OWNERS MANUAL; it might be in the glove box, but if not they are available in reprints.
Many of the larger vendors, as well as the NCRS (National Corvette Restorers Society) bookstore, carry all three.
The trouble shooting guide that Mike mentioned will be a help to you with the vacuum operated headlight and wiper compartment doors. I like the one from a vendor named Dr. Rebuild.
GOOD LUCK!!!
Regards,
Alan

I would add a fourth book to Alan71's list: The Bible! And start praying.

Seriously, welcome to the Forum.
You know, all Mustangs wanna be Corvettes when they grow up!! Wuz gonna refer you to Willcox, but I see he has already chimed in.

Prayer is a 'good' thing....and often necessary when one has a bad day in the garage.
