Getting ready to buy my first Corvette from Fastlanes in St Charles MO. What should I inspect before signing on the dotted line. She had a one owner and the prior owner owned three others. The owner passed on and sat in garage for about five years. The widow started her occasionally
Hi Larry,
First CORVETTE, alright!!!
I'm sure you're pretty excited.
I think it would be a good idea to have someone who's very familiar with the year car you're considering take a very good look at this car with you. There's a long list of things to look at with an experienced eye.
For example, depending on the conditions in the garage, it might have been better if the car hadn't been run at all. I believe starting a car in storage is only a good thing when the car is driven long enough for the fluids to reach operating temperatures.
Regards,
Alan

First.. if the owner passed on and was left in garage for 5 years, i'd be concerned that the Vette was the 2nd item that was neglected...Oh.. wait, the car sat for 5 .. now I get it.
Second, buying the car may help with your virginity, but that's another thread that would go under "performance".
I would recommend you post some pics and give us some details and in return, we can make some real recommendations.
It's exciting for certain -- but do the homework first.
Hey Larry,
I just got off Fastlanes website. I looked at the four C3's that they have listed. The 69 427 with sidepipes that they're asking 42k for is quite interesting. If you look at the picture showing the undercarriage, you'll notice many problems. Cracked and repaired battery box, passenger side frame rail bottom dented in pretty good, and some strange matter stuffed between the frame and the floor pan on the driver's side. If this is the quality of a $42,000 car, I'd hate to see what the other 3 really look like in person, as they're only asking in the teens for those. If you don't know what you're doing or what to look for, take a trained and experienced eye with you or turn and run the other way. If you're young, invest your money in a new car with a warranty and wait a few years for the collector car in your life. While you're waiting, do some reading about Corvettes so you know what to look for when the time comes. Same advice I'd give my son.
The C3 that they have is not on the website, They just got her in a couple weeks ago. I have been researching the popular rust spots and what to look for so I am not going in this blind. I will be giving a full inspection in the under carrage with a hammer and do some tapping. The floor pan should be good I think they started using metel on the floor pan around 75. When they did pick her up it had a couple chips in the paint around the drivers door and some fading and the right rear fender was crack so they are reapairing those spots and putting fresh paint on her. Dark Blue -Green. He checked the Fuel Tank and saw some sedament in there so they are cleaning it out and rebuilding the carb and flushing the fuel lines They are selling me a 73 with 40,000 miles on it for $15,000. But it doesnt hurt to double check with other people who know. Other than being young I have been in the Army for 20 years and I am 41 so I am not a youngin who is looking for a hot car and just to get some girls LOL. Thank You for the help

I used to work in St. Charles. I have stoped by Fastlane before and for the most part they are selling consigment cars for other people. Go acrossed the street to the Corvette shop and ask them there option on the car.
I see we got some funny people out there. I can can always use a good laugh while here in the sandbox. They are putting new tires on also and asked what brand do I want. They are the stock rally rims. Any advice?

The widow told them there was no work done to the car and no mods and this is the second vette she sold them. So I am making a good guess the numbers match.

BF Goodrich P255/60R15 Those to Me have the killer look to the side profile of car. If You prefer the tread look then some in a drag radial is cool but wont last as long. This is just My opinion but if You check My profile I have pics posted of them on My 73 vert.
Haven't heard any talk of numbers and whether you have verified them yet.
Certainly an important factor when discussing price.
Did the buyer mention whether they plan to show the car at NCRS events? If not, I wouldn't necessarily reject a non #s match. Depends on condition and price.
