Default 69-72 steering wheel fix

Anyone know how best to fix a C3 steering wheel where the center ring is starting to protrude out from the black grip

I'm only guessing... but the two conditions that might cause that kind of condition [IMO] are: 1) the plastic is shrinking and requires that you grind down the excess metal or 2) a 'near miss' accident concentrated driver's mass on the steering wheel and the right side of the wheel was bent toward the dash area. This would cause the 'dished' spoke on the right to straighten a bit and elongate outward. #2 is what I believe is likely the cause. You might remove the wheel and place it 'driver's side down' on a flat surface to see if it has been deformed. If such is the case, just hold it in a vise and bend it back into shape. That should reverse the problem.

Thanks Charlie. I believe your first guess to be the case. Just wondered if their were any fix's. Hate to trash a relatively good steering wheel

I think I would still remove the wheel to check for deformation. You have to remove it to work on it anyway. If the wheel is still flat...and it were mine...I would [carefully] use a bench grinder to remove the excess metal, then stone it smooth on the outer edge.
