Default Getting Frustrated

Well I fixed the no start issue with my 75. But during troubleshooting this electrical issue, I find the wiring is spliced in numerous spots. Chaffing and cut insulation and just general untidiness.

I am resigning myself to purchasing a new wiring harness. If I'm going to have a classic car I don't want to have things half assed. I don't know maybe I'm ****, but I can't let things go...So it's breaking out the checkbook...Again.

JB, sounds like the best thing to do. I had issues with my 75 a few years ago and had the same thoughts about doing it right the frist time. My wiring issues with BABA and field nice at the time. Just be sure you get a harnness from a good quality dealer. I think I got mine from Ecklers at the time. Good product suggest you try to obtain a AIM and a good clear wiring diagram. Wires are color coded and some of your gauges have the color of wire stamped into the back side of the gauge. You may have some extra wiring for seat belts. If you use them or have the option to hook them up its up to you to do so. Mine did not so I didn,t. Best of luck you will find that alot of electrical gliches will just vanish. Wow go figure.

I'm looking at purchasing the wiring harnesses through Wilcox possibly. Is there a forum discount? Maybe someone can answer that. The car itself is beautiful and I figure when things are done just about everything is going to be new...Time and money...

I hope you are not confusing the factory fusible links with 'spliced' wiring. Those links have cylindrical insulators on their connection points. If the wiring around your starter is the issue (most wiring from that vintage is pretty much 'toast' in that area), just replace that damaged wiring. IMO, exchanging the entire harness in order to replace the wiring around the starter is massive overkill and unnecessary expense. If you solder-in your splice connections, they will not be 'bulky' looking and you can hide them in the bundle taping. Just my .02. Good luck.

No confusion here. In fact a couple of the splices were fusible links that were removed and the wires butt spliced. Somewhere down the line someone couldn't take the time to replace them.

I have replaced 3 fusible links that were removed at some time. In fact one of the fusible links was just wrapped together and taped...Noticed the sparking and replaced....Just a real bubba job.

After finding these and noticing multiple cracked and chaffed wires I will take the time to do the job properly.

Go for a custom look at use nothing but hard spool bare copper wire. Make little crazy brackets and race tracks throughout the engine bay. You'll need to wear rubber gloves when you check the oil though

Good luck man. It sounds like the previous owner spliced your wires a bit with this one. I just hope you don't find out that other things stop working when you try to wire them back up properly. It could turn into a mountain.

Whoa. At the least, replacing the engine and forward lamp harnesses is easier than diving under the dash.

Talk to Willcox. I think they sell LectricLimited harnesses. LL is good stuff.

Good luck.

Well there is a forum price on these harness's...

Why the links are not working.... I don't have a clue... If there was a problem with the links I may have to rebuild them. Might take a little while but I should be able to fix them by tomorrow. And the forum prices are very nice.

JB The 1975 Links are up on the forum special section now..

Here is the link: http://willcoxcorvette.com/advanced_...ARNESS&x=0&y=0

And just a note: The mentioned vendor above is higher on than the forum specials prices.

Willcox
