Does anyone sell a main frame that fits the orginal three door lids with out having to trim anything? My repop main frame is to small for the door lids to fit

How tight were the doors in your old frame? Or, can we assume that your old one was cracked and broken and you couldn't really tell how tight they were?

If your doors are made of particle board material, chances are that the doors have swelled from years of soaking up humidity and [maybe] not having a solid frame set to keep the doors from swelling. If that's the case, you can remove the old frames and do some sanding to get the doors down to the original size again. Unless the set you bought is mislabeled for the wrong year or is designed/manufactured improperly, that should solve your problem.

My 68 had swelled doors. A little sanding and they fit great.

The three small doors or covers fit fine in their three indiviual frames.
It's getting them to fit in the repop main frame they are to large to fit in the main frames holes.

I bought it a while a go from Willcox, the fit was excellent, no rubbings.

If "a while ago" has been years, the whole frame set may have shrunk while it was sitting loose. Or, it could be something else....

I'm sure you don't want to hear this but the best thing you can do is buy the complete 3 door assembly finished and ready to install from one of the vendors.

I have an original set the frames and lids. The lids still have the instructions on them, as appropriate. If you are interested let me know but I won't break up the set.

There is something interesting about the doors that I have. They are all spring loaded to hold them open. I'm not sure if they are orginal to this car but there where so many wired things about a 68 I'd like to keep them, so if I could find a main frame I'd like to keep them as I found them.

Hi tcg,
I don't think any of the original frames, hinges, and doors, were 'spring loaded'.
I have, however, seen doors that lift up a bit when unlatched because of pressure on the piano hinge from the way it was installed.
Regards,
Alan

This is a issue that pops up all the time. The trims we carry are the exact same dimensions as the original trims and in most cases the doors are the issue.

Thanks for the order you all...

The complete assembly really is the best way to go. We used to build these in house before the assemblies were available. If you are paying a shop to build your old unit the cost difference between the price of the pars vs. the cost of the assembly is way cheaper than the labor to install and assembly the parts. Now in the shop the only way we install them is as an assembly... Saves us time and the customer money.

I'm almost positive the hinges on the '68 are unique.
