Well, black may look good to you, but it screams "repop short block" to most everyone else. Black is what most remanufactured engines are painted. If that doesn't bother you, leave it black.
HAHA, yeah I went black with the block and pan also. Will hide dirt better and makes the chrome stand out better up top IMO. So yeah, if someone thinks my 500HP 383 stroker is a repop......they would be right. Looks great.
i decided im sticking with black.. it looks great! and those powder coated valve covers, aluminum heads and endurashine intake will look awesome. not quite pushin 500 but around 415 which is all i can afford at the moment

I left mine black as well when I put the 350HO Crate engine in my 77. My Hooker Supercomp Chrome Headers look really nice with the black background and I have gotten a lot of compliments on the engine bay. I think you will be happy with the color change and throw in a little chrome here and there and the contrast, and look, in my opinion, will please you. Great job you are doing and thanks for sharing.

Not my best photographic work but I am traveling and don't have access to all my pictures. I think the black on black looks pretty good myself. I also used an aluminum radiator, dual spall fans, hydroboost brakes, steeroids, and converted to a TKO500 on this makeover. What a difference. Make sure to share pictures along the way, looking forward to your continued progress.
Best regards,
David
thats some great work right there im hoping i can put some steeroids in as well within the next year sometime. how much improvement did you feel? Also, i have seen those distibutor wire holders on your valve covers before, but how on earth do they hook onto them?
yep we had talked about that and i believer we are going to. the only thing i messed up on was that i bought this intake from a buddy of mine and its an EPS its not for vortec heads... SOOOOOO i need to sell this one and get on that fits
I cleaned my engine bay with Purple Cleaner, and a lot of elbow grease. there were a few places that gunk was caked on, so I used a plastic scraper first, then the purple cleaner. I wiped everything down with laquer thinner before painting. years later, everything is still holding up great, and I did my compartment with the engine still in.

The steeroids gave the car an amazing amount of improved handling. Love it. With the added HP I wanted better handling and braking. Very happy with the car.
The wire harness is a three part assebly at the clip and two small nuts and bolts hold them together. The clips are held to the engine (in my case on the vortec heads) using a bolt through the valve cover. There are several styles and I liked this style, bought them from Jegs I believe. Not too expensive and gives the wiring a neater appearance.
Keep up the good work.
Cheers.

Ive just painted my engine black, and also added some chrome, i think it looks great keep up the good work.
You painted the headers with what? Damn near anything but ceramic coating will burn off, and soon.
Love the black. I'd be conflicted about its ability to hide leaks and cracks but far far better color-matching-wise. I haven't seen just what year this car is but in my '77's stock engine color was a lightish blue. not sure what year it changed.

i know.. it sucks i painted them with rustoleums 2000 degree paint and baked them at 300 so maybe it wont burn off toooooo quick. yeah i thought about the bein able to find leaks, but oh well im committing haha and i think your right about the light blue
havent posted in awhile so here is the engine now.. ALMOST done still waiting on a carb. going to go with the holley 4150 street and i changed the intake out because the eps would not fit vortec heads so i went with the crosswind
Engine blocks/parts painted orange is awful unless the car is orange but powder/baby blue is nothing short of "weenie" !!...Black rules unless it's powdered coated silver with chrome accents.
