Bought my low mile 82 cheap because it was undrivable with a bent trailing arm. It took a flat bed to get it home. I got it in the garage and put a battery on it and it fired right up and purred like a kitten.
I was real happy because it had been sitting for a while, all gauges seemed to be working. I was surprised when the a/c started blowing cold I was smiling ear to ear because this is my 1st vette and its been a dream.
I started messing with the radio, I turned around when I heard the antennia power up, when I spin back around I see smoke boiling out from under hood!! I thought the thing was on fire, so I cut it off and grabbed the extinguisher but it turned out to be the valve covers leaking like a sieve. Large oil spot under this bad boy, tossing around pulling engine to give her a little TLC.
Now that you said it doesn't leak, you've shortened your time to your next leak extravaganza...that irony is a bitch.
Well, it lasted only a few days, I fired it up yesterday and saw a small puddle of coolant dripping underneath the radiator on the drivers side. I guess I need to track this down and see where to apply the $20.00's.
Adage applicable to all classic and antique cars: If nothing's leaking, something's empty.
I drip power steering fluid myself, slow enough to not worry about it. I had driven about 2000 miles since I checked it last, and it was down about a shot glass. I figure I'll check it again in a year or so. I don't care about the occasional spot on the driveway and garage floor, my '95 Camry DD drips so much dirty old oil all over the place, that you can hardly notice the PSF from the vette.
thanks guys - going to try the stop leak , see if i can slow it down...i don't mind if the ol girl marks her spot , just don't want to buy shares in power steering fluid...
Pete.
