Anyone have any tips/tricks for installing the carpet plugs that hold the carpet in place along the rear vertical piece? I have only 3 to install but spent the good part of an hour and have only gotten one to go in all the way.

Wood dowel
I used a wood dowel (forgot the size) while I was pushing the head of the plug. The real trick is to stretch the plug so it becomes narrower and then it will pop into the hole. Don't push too hard or it will puncture the plug.
First: Use a solder gun to sort of "cauterize" the carpet and the padding you want all that crap out of the way, but not so much that the plug cant hold the carpet down. Ps it will smell and dont burn yourself.
Second, you need a round shaft about 3/16 dia (old screwdriver works) but grind the end off, you want the full diameter to stretch the plug through the hole....
LAST thing...put some clear grease on the plug...it will go through.
I finally got them to seat in place. I ended up grinding down an old screwdriver and then put a washer on it. Now that they are in place, next step is to mount the rear interior light which is hiding behind the carpet. What is the best way to mount the light?
Hi T,
The original carpet was cut for the light. I guess you'll have to slit in your carpet big enough for the light base to pass through. Then you can screw the 2 mounting screws through the carpet into the plate; and then snap the lense in place

Alan

I used a couple old trim screws and ground the heads off & sharpen them to locate the holes !

I eventually gave up after buying the tool and ruining most of the rubber plugs by pushing them through. What a PITA.
I found that the drywall anchors worked perfectly - push them in the hole and use a screw.
