For the console, I ran the carpet up to the shifter (leaving about 1 inch bare around the shifter area), and the same for the handbrake.
Up to the mounting plate for the hand brake or over the plate?
Does the carpet cover the speed nuts?
I was reluctant to trim when I first installed. Carpet extended up between the mounting brackets and consoles. Makes a tight fit. Wondering if I should trim a bit lower, not cover the speed nuts?
Hi BB,
Here's what I have on my 71.
It extends about 2" under the shfter console. You can see where it's cut for the emergency brake console. NOTE!!! The 2 sides are different from each other.
I left all the carpet there was to tuck under the front heater deflector on both sides.
You can see how much I left at the front/top of the foot wells where the plugs are.
I had the most trouble getting the carpet trimmed just right so the kick- panels could mount properly and be screwed into place.
This is my second new set in 3 years. Now it's a combination of Al Knock and original.
Good Luck with yours!
Regards,
Alan
Hi Mick,
Yes you're right. The way the rear scallop on the sides of the e-brake console are shaped can make for big trouble if you don't check and re-check!

Thanks! I was hoping you would respond with some pictures...
My carpets are Al Knoch as well. Quite a bit of overlap which it appears I may trim off. I originally had a lot of carpet trapped between the consoles and mounting plates, afraid to trim.
my last set from ACC came up short on console area by the parking brake console. Really disappointed with quality of parts as of late, think there must be some problems in workforce communications at ACC.
You need to leave at least 2 inches of extra carpeting on the front carpet sections to stuff under the tunnels. If you don't, the carpet may buckle a bit.
Hi,
I agree with being disappointed.
I felt the carpet pieces were skimpy in some areas too.
Here's my latest beef.... the original heel/dimmer pad and the reproduction..... not even close in appearance. I moved the original pads from the original carpet to the new carpet.
Am I being too picky here?

Alan

Not sure I'm following. Stuff under the tunnels? Do you mean around the floor duct, heater? Or are you referring to material to stuff under the consoles?
Hi BB,
I think 7T1 meant 'consoles' not 'tunnels'.
If you look carefully you can see that the carpet does lay on top of the tunnel on each side at the front. It actually does lay slightly under the floor defuser in my 71. You can also see how much of the carpet is under the shifter console.

Hi Mick,
I do understand what you're saying. I don't think I've ever seen a 68-72 Corvette parked along the road that I haven't stopped to take a quick look. SOMETHING for everyone.
My complaint is that the mfg says how accurate their reproduction is... what's in the water they're drinking? This sucker is only 'correct' in it's size and shape. Even it's position on the carpet was wrong. Almost half of it was under the kick panel.

Alan
