I want to change the chrome mounting plates on my 77. They are pitted. I went to remove one, and relized that the nut inside will fall if I take the triangle screw all the way out. How do you change these?
Leave one screw in the old one and pivot it up or down, which ever, and screw in one screw with the new plate, basically trading places. You don't want the threaded plate to fall down into the bird cage.

Thats what I was going to do. But the one large Triangle screw seems to have a nut that is not tack welded on the inside. It's loose, so if I were to back it all the way out. The nut would fall.
Hi d,
If you take the large piece of interior trim off the lock pillar you can see the area of the fiberglass and birdcage where the plate should be. NOT the plate (or nut), but the AREA. You can then see where you can cut out a piece of fiberglass (the trim covers it) about 3/4" wide and 1 1/2" long that will give you access to the plate or nut on the birdcage.
Hope this helps!
Regards,
Alan
