Friend of mine,Tyler, races at the local tracks. He had a fella standing next to him in the pits the other day talking about motors. This guy swore he just ran a short block in his car. Didn't have a long block he ran a short one, said it ran pretty well too. So naturally Tyler starts talking about how much less it weighs and easier to work on with all the extra room and this guy agrees. Said they went on for quite awhile and the whole time this guy was set on a short block being better than a long one. They never got around to what kind of car he had. I know some off you guys race too and might be able to use the knowledge.
Personally, I think the long ones run better and stronger. I always liked those offset motor mounts too. The ones that offset the motor to the left for better cornering on ovals.

We couldn't afford complete offset mounts so wanted to use offset bolts on stock mounts instead. Then we found that we needed offset wrenches to tighten them.
Reminds me of the story about the young guy who walked into the pharmacy and asked for a box of condoms. The lady behind the counter, sensing his apprehension, asked him what size...short, medium or long?

Ex-navy corpsman here. We used to put boxes of condoms on the quarterdeck so that sailors going ashore for "r&r" wouldn't bring us back unnecessary business. We always marked the boxes 'small, medium, and large'....never did get a call for more 'small' or 'medium' ones
