on a '72, which way round does the wiper switch power connector go?
it has a rib down 1 side, does that go towards the extra bit on the actual switch, or face away from it?
the aim shows it (badly) from behind facing the drivers side.
i took it off a couple months ago and forget which way it went.
the metal housing and the switch have a tab and indent(can't remember which has which right now) that only allows assembly one way. unlesss someone has bubba'd the unit, it can only fit one way.
Hi r,
The AIM shows the wiper connector 'tab' towards the right (passenger's side) of the car. UPC 12, B 5.
You're right, it will slide on with the tab in either direction, but the wipers work with it in only one direction.

Alan
Hi jnb,
You don't know how close you are!!!!
When I was typing the reply I considered going down and unscrewing the wiper switch bezel to get a picture. But I didn't.
The next time I'm down there I'll take a picture for the next time the question comes up!!! It will, you know!!!!
Regards,
Alan

And I seem to remember hooking it up backwards once - and I think the washers started up as soon as I turned on the ignition.
have tried it both ways, nothing, it worked b4 it removed the cd/radio.. which i just unpluged from the unit, didnt cut anything.
am getting a mild shock while i hold the bezel when i try the switch,
also when i press the horn......
bad earth maybe?
is / should the bezel earthed anywhere?
if you're getting a shock from the bezel, something is wired incorrectly. the bezel should be grounded thru one of the instrument wires(fuel gauge i think). did you remove or disconnect the wiper motor? there are two leads going to the wiper motor that look similar and can be switched by accident(i know this from experience). they are the single wire to ground lug, and the single wire that emerges from the motor. double check these. in any case the bezel should not have 12v on it.
You'll find more than enough to resolve this problem at this link. Plus there is a picture of the connector.. I think I have one on the site too.. I'll check in a second. But yes... even with the tab on the side the switch can be plugged in wrong.
Hi,
Nice Pictures Ernie!
The picture titled 'wrong way' shows the problem.
The tab on the SWITCH isn't quite thick enough to ALWAYS hit the tab on the CONNECTOR to prevent the connection from being made backwards. Sometimes it just slips past.

just removed the din sized cd/radio from the bezel, ordered a new bezel from willcox,
didnt have an aim at the time so just tried undoing any screw i could see.
have left all the wiring in the console, just unplugged from the cd/radio.
thought maybe i may have disturbed an earth wire somewhere.
will have a look after work 2nite, (it's 6-30 am here now and on way to work)
