Here I go again. I'm looking to trade my 95 Viper for a 72 BB coupe. It is numbers matching 454, auto, AC, all power, tilt-teliscopic steering wheel, new suspension new interior, rebuilt original engine with 70 corvette heads and cam to boost up the hp. I still don't know how to post pictures of the car but have some.
I'm hoping someone can help me post the pictures and let me know what the car may be worth if I trade. Thanks for the help.
original engine with 70 heads? so now the definition of original engine is the cylinder block? I wouldn't call that an original engine, and I wouldn't pay original engine money for the car...
if you are comptemplating doing this at a dealer, then you will be getting a wholesale price for your viper and pay a retail price for the corvette.. you can probably get a 10K better deal by shopping around and getting the word 'trade' out of the deal.
I have never NOT been insulted when trying to trade in a car at a dealer.
A lot of variables to consider if you're asking what the current market value is. It's obviously not completely original. What else has been changed? How's the paint, interior, chrome, frame, etc?
Pictures would be helpful. A close look for rust issues would be a big factor as well.
I'd guess from $10K to $25K for a price range, not being as originally built at this time.

yes... I would
How would you know the heads are original to a car anyway? The original heads have a part number but no vin stamp or anything else that ties them to a particular car. Are they even date coded? It can be tough to verify the heads without removing the valve covers anyway.

Yes, I believe all castings have date codes, used for QA.
By defintion, no it's not original. Will people check it? Maybe not. Will they question a matching number as well? Not necessarily..
Bigger question related to this would be what else is non original? If value is based on originality, could be something to consider.
Hi prnl,
I agree that there's nothing that ties a particular set of heads to a particular engine, but I believe the heads have a casting number and casting date that can make them 'appropriate', (or not) ,for an engine with a specific assembly date and hp configuration..

Alan
yes, the heads do have a casting date, which should match up close to the block casting date.. and yes the date is under the valve cover.. but the op made a statement of original engine....

Hi BB70, you replied while I was typing.
Hi Alan,
Seems we're on the same wavelength on this one..
