Default Jack stands

Step son got me four jack stands (rated 4,000# per pair) that are much heavier duty than the lighter weight stamped steel sets I have used. My question is, do you guys raise the car off all four and use four of the heavy duty jackstands?

The disclaimer/use info that came with these jackstands says DO NOT USE ON ALL FOUR CORNERS. Now I know that all kinds of safety disclaimers come with practically everything now days, but what are your opinions?

Before I got my lift I had mine on 4 jack stands all the time. No problem doing this.

Yeah, well when you see some of the absolutely crazy disclaimers and safety warnings on products today.....like "do iron clothes while they are on your body" I suppose you have to expect such warnings.

I use 4 jack stands all the time, but I usually have a wheel or two under there too; just in case....
I also use a small piece of wood between the jack stand and the metal frame. I feel that the jacking surface and the frame inperfections indent into the wood and help keep the jack from sliding on the frame.

For double double safety i put wheel ramps under the wheels and then use the jack stands only as back up for the ramps. With the car on the ramps I have plenty of room (OK, enough room) to work under the car on my back.

I'm a fan of the "double safety" too. A friend's brother met his maker by using only a jack and climbing under the car to work....

i use 4 stands all the time on a flat concrete surface, what does the base of your stands look like? and how wide are they? if they are the stamped steel ones that have three legs i would not use them at all. if they are the 4 leg ones that have a 10" base you are good to go. just make sure after you jack the car up and put it on the stands you walk around and make sure that they are still touching the vehicle and then try as hard as you can to shake the vehicle off the stands.....if it moves dont get under the car....if yhou cant move it you are good to go....good luck and buy and use eye protection when ever you go under there.

In reply to bobs77vett.....these are the heavy duty jack stands. Four legs, very substantial and much more than those stamped steel three legged jobs. I think back to my younger days when I used those light duty three legged jobs to hold up my '58 Corvette and crawled around under it all the time.
