am I crazy?
Am I crazy to want to drop the tank on my 77, to see if the sheet is there? Since I got the car it's been in the back of my head wondering if it's there or not. Is it difficult to do? I already tried to see with a mirror, but don't have any small enough. Can't see anything from the filler lid either.

Our '77s have the tank shield as noted above. I had to drop all spare tire carrier pieces, exhaust, fuel tank and crossmember, then tank shield. My sticker was in poor shape or more correctly the ink that was used had mostly faded out. The best piece of info legible was the dealer that my car was delivered to. If there was any chance that the sheet was still in place on my '69 I would go for it. Unfortunately, the PO had replaced the fuel tank and had junked the old tank. When I ask him if he had found the sheet he said he had but just thrown it away with the tank.

This is probably a good time to replace the rubber fuel lines (that tie into the steel lines running to the front). After 33 years they may be deteriorating.
Also, you may want to look at the sock on the fuel sending unit to see if it needs to be replaced.

Well I went under the car, took the spare off. And could see the top edge of the tank. No paper 
I left the spare tire off with its cradle. The spare has some weight to it! Took some pic's of everything. Could someone help decode the letters on the spare rim for me?

I may have misunderstood you/the pics, but the sheet isn't located on the tank. It's on the shield that covers the tank. In your pictures it is the black metal piece above and around the tank. In other words, the sheet would be on the other side of that shield (towards the body).

'78 glued directly to the top of the tank. Driver side top front edge. Is '77 different? I don't recall a shield up above there.

Once the tank is out, you will then need to remove the shield. It's a series of bolts attached to the frame on all sides.
Edit- Mike beat me to it.
Also your rally wheels are AZ - which is correct for the Vette. Also 2 - 9 means a maunfacturing date of February 9th. You should see a 7 (for 1977) somewhere around there too or in the center of the wheel. Mine were marked K-1-6 and 9 - 15 which means the were made 9/15/76. This makes sense as my '77 was made in October of '76.

Without the spare tire carrier and all, I am able to reach my hand up there and touch mine. I pulled on it a bit and I heard it rip, so I stopped. I guess if I want to really remove it I would have to drop the tank. Good luck.
