I'm a State Farm agent (actually not far from you in Bloomingdale)...anyway, do you have car insured as an antique/classic? Just insured my '75 at $15K value and its about $75/year. We still allow several thousand miles a year, and regular license plates. Take a look into that with your SF agent.
But is State Farm's classic policy a "stated value" or "guaranteed value" policy?

State Farm would not give me an AGREED VALUE policy in North Carolina.
$15,500 from Hagerty was $139.00 in 09, $160.00 in 10, next renewal has a few months to go.
I'm currently shopping around for insurance for my 71 BB. What concerns me is the limitations that few people seem to know or talk about. Apparently Grundy has a no getting groceries or drive to work clause. This concerns me because I will be occasionally driving it work or to the store to get a soda. Prices are all over the place too. Here's the current quotes I've received.
Nationwide (Agreed Value of $35K): 560/yr
Hagerty: 616/yr
Grundy: 234/yr
NCM: 401/yr
So far, NCM seems like the best value. But I wasn't able to complete the application on-line so I don't know what limitations they have. I will be calling them shortly.
I have used Hagerty in the past! No problems drive as much as I want ect. It was about $250 for the year! so the 10% increase really isnt that much! My 02

I recently added my 75 for 15K unto my State farm (in Fl.) and it was double that.???
Just got my renewal notice there is a 12.5% increase over last years premium.. no claims, no nothing . The car actually rolled 35 miles in the past year....to one (1) car show .....
anyone else see this increase from Hagerty?
Are there ANY OTHER collector car insurance companies out there that are competitive with Hagerty?
1980 model, 32,*** miles bone stock car..
Hagerty did the same to me. Heacock was 1k cheaper for the same coverage. National Corvette Museum blew me off. I stayed with Heacock and have been happy!
The bad thing about hagerty they only give you 5000 in medical payments.you cant increase the coverage.when it comes up for renew next month I think Im looking elsewhere.

I have stated value thru State Farm of $50k and mines not near $75.00 more like $500.00 registered as an antique in Texas. I may be shopping
State Farm is going to give you $50K for a 73 if totaled? Got this from the web, on an insurance co. site:
The "Stated Amount" helps determine the premium cost.
It does not guarantee you a settlement amount that reflects the value of the car when a loss occurs. The "Actual Cash Value" language allows the claims adjuster to settle your loss for an amount less than the "Stated Amount".
Sadly, most insurance agents are unaware of this detail. Most agents, unaware of the actual policy language, will insist if your collector car is stolen or totaled, you will receive the stated value.
I now own SIX Corvettes .. and have been with American Collectors for YEARS ...And I renewed my policy in November for the FIVE I owned at that time...
In December I purchased an 88 ANC and just for the heck of it I ran all 6 of my cars thru the NCM online quote system and almost fell over...
Bottom line is that I am saving over $200 a year PLUS I am insuring 6 cars NOT 5 ...
I insured the 88 with ADam as of last Tuesday now and will switch the other 5 over to him in November...
My only question concerns the discount given for being in a Car Club
Our local Corvette Club was not listed and I was told I would get "forms" to fill out to have the club officially listed ...only problem is I have not received the forms ...
Without the discount the price is almost $1000 BUT with the discount a hair under $900 ...both prices are under what I paid American Collectors for the 5 cars plus I increased the value on my cars to a more realistic value BUT decreased the millage limit on 3 of them down to 1000 miles for the 3 cars I show more then drive...win win situation for me and the NCM...
American Collectors Ins. Co. Been with them 3 years went from $195.00 to $200.00 this year. $25,000 in value. Drive 2,500. per year , must have a garage to keep it in. I drive more then 2,500 per year and they have never said a word about it. You have to disclose miles evey year.
Regardless of the numbers of claims, I just don't understand how insurance companies make money when they routinely agree to values of cars that are often double or more the actual market value of the cars. Some of the pure delusional fantasy they accept from "appraisers" (lol) is laughable.

I've done two National Corvette Caravans while I was insured by American Collectors and in both cases they charged me a small premium over and above my normal premium to completely cover the car while I was on the caravan and to extent the mileage above the regular limits....
I doubt that they would question your actual mileage that you reported every year BUT if you had your car insured for a million Dollars and has it insured for 10 years and the odometer showed it exceeded 25000 miles in that time period I have a gut feeling that you would have the claim denied...
its a 2 way street...cheat if you want to but do so at your own risk...
Bottom line the NCM had by far the best deal for me since I own several Corvettes..

Bob.....I hear ya , that's been a thought for me also. Not sure you are understsanding what I am saying. I disclose to them every year and keep copies of the form with accurate mileage readings , I am not cheating on the readings. If they choose to bump me to a new mileage level then I will understand and pay the increase. So far they have not done that I am assuming because it's usually only over by a few hundred miles or so. I keep copies of everything , if they deny a claim due to excess mileage they will have a battle as I have disclosed every year what miles I have put on and have proof it was disclosed. If they don't read their own form that's their problem.

Call them, ask if it's correct. It they answer yes, ask if they're sure they want to do that. If they answer yes again, ask who you're speaking to. Tell them you'll call back in a couple of hours (should be long enough to get your new policies). Call back, ask for the person you spoke with earlier and ..........
There are thousands of threads on this on all car sites. And still people buy STATED AMOUNT policies. If you do and lose you tail. you didn't do your homework. So don't come moaning and groaning when you are in a pizzing match with YOUR adjustor. DO NOT BUY STATED AMOUNT INSURANCE FOR YOUR CLASSIC CAR. I know some people dont know the difference but People are reading these threads and still have it.
