Default egr valve

Does anybody know how much the plunger is supposed to move on the egr valve? I have 5-8 inches of vacuum between 2500-3000 rpm but the plunger only moves about 1/8"

I'm not sure; however, as long as it opens and holds vacuum then it should be OK. You don't need a very large opening to suck the exhaust gas back into the carb.

Car Manufacturers don't publish how much movement is required, usually if you operate the valve, or apply vacuum and the engine stumbles, it's good. Most egr problems are that the plunger doesn't move at all due to a broken diaphram, plugged egr ports or the vacuum control system isn't working. The valve only has to dilute the fuel/air mixture to lower the combustion temps to prevent NOX emissions and prevent pinging.
