Have to say, there are some very nice 74's in this thread, and even the ones that need work like my own, can only hope that it turns out as nice as they are in this thread.
Out of all the C3's that I have been fortunate enough to own over the years, they were all SB's. Well that changed in Dec '08 when I found the 74 BB Vert on the forum. Always wanted a BB, and very happy that I found one.
Here are some pics, the first two being the day I drove up to CT. to take it home. It is still a work-in-progress, just taking my time as my schedule permits. The main thing is that I have it, and collecting everything needed to get back on the road.....
@ beige79 - Thanks for sharing that cool photo. Nice car. Is that Lake Charles?Ron
Thanks Ron. Yeah the picture was taken here in Lake Chuck - about 1978. The picture is old and faded - a lot like me. I had a lot of fun with that car. Wish the picture was better quality.
I love this thread! You guys have some beautiful '74s, I hope I can get mine half as nice as some of yours. But since she spent the better part of last year on jack stands, i only have a few new pictures but here ya go.
I love the original look of your car. I wish I could say I've had mine for 20+ years.
Ron
Thanks ...I'm a 74 fan.My first stringray was a 74 350auto coupe, I just turned 19 when I traded my 77 Z28. Reading the owners manuel was all there was, there was no reference books ,no internet not many people owned corvettes, so info for young inquiring minds info was scarce. Owners manuel mentioned 454's, 4 spds and convertibles. I was curious, wow cool !! WHERE ??, I was dreaming putting a special 74 together in my mind. ..HA!!!? It took about 14 years waiting ( no internet) to find this one. I put alot of time into tracking this car down, turns out not alot were made, and finding someone with one wanting to sell it was nearly impossible back then.. Now thanks to AL Gore you can find anything in 5 minutes to 5 months. I traded a 65 for it , and to be honest , I like it alot better, if not....be sure I'd have traded it off in a heartbeat, I've owned 10 corvettes . The low power 454 is dependable , runs cool and is simple to maintain., although its needing a carb overhaul . It was powerful enought to break a mounting ear off the Muncie alum housing. One of the few let downs I've had. I love the C2-C3 styling , no corvettes since has made the impact of these cars.
@crzynate25 - That's what my car would have looked like originally. Your 74 is very nice.
@LS4PILOT - Thanks for sharing your story. I like reading stuff like that. My obsession started in high school - late seventies - when a lady I worked with had an orange 74. Once I month I got to have it for the day in exchange for waxing it - pretty cool for a high school kid. The passion has never left me. I do have a C6 and it's an awesome car, but doesn't compare to my love for my 74 - and someday guess what color I want to paint it - you guessed it - orange.
