Just looking for some input, what is the distance from the top of your front tire to the bottom of the fender? Same with the rear. Trying to get some ride height averages and see how my springs are holding up after 30+ years.
How does it ride? Mushy and bouncing? I just lowered mine so it may just be a matter of taste. I like the lower ride height opposed to some of the rear high cars I see on here. How old are your shocks too, that makes a world of difference in ride. I would guess there is roughly 3 inches from tire to fenderwell in front and 4 plus in the rear.
Hi mf,
The earlier years that I'm familiar with (70-72) have an easy dimension to check that's part of the trim height dimensions in the AIM.
On that sheet there are various suspension points to be measured, but I find an easier one is the ground to the center of the wheel-opening arch. It gives you a rough number to work with.
In 71 it's just a hair below 28" front and rear.
This dimension depends on the tire size (how tall is it compared to the original tires) but should give you an idea on your car.
My 71 (sb) with the original springs and shocks is 1/2" low in front and close to factory 27.9" in the rear.
Hope this helps!

Alan
74 L48 manual `vert and rally wheels with p235/75R15 all around
the drive and half shafts are out, fuel tank dry, battery out, and no bumper cover/tail lights...as well as no paint...will putting those things back on the car bring the tail back down? that much?
Hi T R,
The tires you're using are quite a bit taller than the original tires.
That's certainly 'part' of the dimension you're seeing.
I believe the original tires were 26.9" in diameter; what are yours?

Alan

oh...just went and measured
about 28"(or alittle more) tall to top of tires as they sit
ok, well I have someone selling me some 76 and later alum wheels with pretty good v-rated tires....I saw them in person, I can't remember what size they are...but I believe they are 10" wide, and maybe talk about them being 27" round
...it seems I can get them whenever I'm ready(they are just about a half mile from where I live), the last talk I had with the seller said he just needed something to put on the car he was taking them off of, so it would still roll....however I kinda wanted to keep the rally wheels and old tires on my car durring body work and stuff...and then later get a different set of tires for the steel rallys, for letting my car sit on them in the winter, that also had more of an "all weather" tread design in case I ever had to drive the car in the snow/rain
or do you think I should just let the old rallys go?...the wheels look really new, and I have all center caps-n-rings

i gave up on this tyope of measurement.....every time i went out and came back and parked the car they changed.....drove me nuts so i finally stopped measuring. jugheads car has the perfect stance
measuring at the rockers mine is an inch high in the front. whats the best way to lower? do you have to cut springs? i would like to lower it about 2 inches.
