Default 69 Carpet Replacement

Does anyone know if there is difference in the carpet sets (for a 69) sold by Mid America versus Wilcox? They appear identical although Mid America's ad says they have a heat and sound shield while the Wilcox ad just says heat. They are both 80/20 loop and say OEM. The Mid America ad also says it is 13 ounces. The Mid America set is $260 and Wilcox is $208. Thanks in advance.

Javaman, it's the same kit. Both are Prochoice carpet sets. I'll have to fix the info on the link to avoid future confusions.

Thank you,

Willcox

Hands down in my opinion romeo engineering has the best carpet including the correct heal toe pad. They did my 68 . Their pricing is right in between the pricing you have posted. The owners name is Dennis. They are not the quickest but the carpets are excellent. Their website is www.romeoengineering.com Hope this help you in your research. Good luck.

Thank you both for taking the time to answer. I looked at the Romeo set and like the fact that it has the original Interstate MFG logo. Little confusing though as the same part number shows $205 and $149. I first thought the $205 came with the sound deadner kit but that would add $89 bringing the final cost to $238. Of course the $205 price could reflect a discount if you add the sound kit when ordering. Will follow up with them tomorrow.
Wilcox - can you tell me if your clock (CA6826Q) is an exact replica of the original 69 clock? At $155 I'm thinking it makes more sense for me to replace mine rather than rebuild now. Thanks again.

Yep, the clock is on the money! If there is a difference I can't tell. The only thing is that this is a quartz clock so the hand will sweep vs. ticking like the original movement. We have the standard movement clocks, they are not on the site. I'll have to see about why tomorrow.

My choice on this would be the quartz clock for its history of lasting forever. The original Borg movement clocks were not the best thing GM ever installed in a car for sure.

IMHO,

Willcox

I agree with your choice for quartz. They do run forever and it's not a job you want to do or have done more than once. Will be placing my order tomorrow.
By the way...I assume they light up identical to original.

Javaman, if you not ever plan to have judged by the NCRS or Bloomington then the gentleman from Wilcox is correct. Going quartz movement is the better route. As far as having your clock restored, you can get it converted to quartz. How is the face of the clock. If it is good shape I would keep it and have it converted that is the route you choose at least this way all your gauges will match in their age. Good luck

Hi,
I have to add that the 80/20 carpet from Romeo was such a disappointment to me that after installing it, I took it out.
I found the 80/20 carpet itself was not all close to the original. It's very fuzzy and the loops are very indistinct.
After getting samples from the various manufacturers (not the many distributors) I decided on Al Knock carpet. The carpet matched my original very well in appearance.
But... the piece for the rear compartment floor and rear bulkhead is cut for later cars and isn't even close to earlier (70-72) cars. The piece for the bulkhead behind the seats has a stiff backing on it and the original didn't which makes the new carpet 'hang' in an odd way compared to the original.
The heel and dimmer pads from Romeo are o.k. but easy to tell from original. The IMCO football logo, which they're so proud of, is twice the size of the original and doesn't appear on the dimmer pad as it does on the original.
The heel and dimmer pads from Al Knock were unusable if configuration matters to you. I'll add 2 pictures.
I decided to put my original rear wheel well, compartment doors, rear floor and bulkhead, carpet back in. I used the seat bulkhead (I couldn't 'save' my original) and 2 front floor pieces. I removed the original heel and dimmer pads and sewed them in place on the Al Knock carpet by hand.
Here's a picture of the rear bulkhead carpet... everyone's carpet I saw has the top too high to clear the rear window tray hinges, and no dip at the ends. So it might be typical for 72+ cars.
I spent a zillion hours on this, doing my homework, getting the carpet, and installing it.
Good Luck!
Regards,
Alan

Sorry for the rant but I've spent too much money, and WAY too much time on carpet.

Note height to clear hinge and 'dip':

Bulkhead is very 'stiff' looking:

Again, my thanks to everyone for making the time to respond. Alan, given what you've said, I just may go with the Prochoice set from Wilcox. Would still love to hear other opinions/reviews before making a decison.

Hi Alan

Thats unfortunate what happened to you about the carpet. My interior color is Dark Blue which is not to common for 68. When I ordered my carpet Dennis he had a roll of dark blue that he had for years. I requested a sample before I ordered it so I could make sure if was correct as possible. The color and loop was fine. The molding of them fit perfect. Maybe, I got lucky. As far as the logo goes, you are correct, but their was not anyone out there at the time that does the logo on the heal toe pad. I have al knock carpets in my 63 coupe 9 which is a top flight car as well) and the color is fine but the carpet loop was not as I had hope for, but still did good throught the judge process and level of the ncrs.
