Default Oh boy here we go

Got a call from the painter of my car. As some of you know this started out as me getting a L88 hood and having it painted to match the car. Well I took the car to him and told him what I wanted. He said he might fix a few of the small issues with the paint no big deal. Well he is a perfectionist and got a little carried away. He called today and said the only panel that was not in primer was the drivers door. The whole car is getting a repaint and then clear coated. It will come back looking like a show car. He will not charge me for all the labor as he has a lot of hours in it but realizes he went a little overboard. I will probably be afraid to drive it for fear of knicking it. Not to worried though, I told him I wanted it right. Going to cost more but what the he$$ its only money. He painted it 18 years ago so it needed a little refresh. I only thought a little refresh not the whole deal. Should be home in about 2 weeks as color is going on tomorrow. I'll certainly post up the pics when I bring it home.

I am constantly amazed at folks who "have work done" and haven't prepared a contract with details of what is to be done, when it is to be finished, how much it will cost, and what penalties are due if the above isn't done properly and on time.

Having a brand new paint job after 18 years is going to make it look like a brand new car again.

Post photos of your car with the new hood when you bring it home.

Gordon, if we park next to one another we'll have to leave extra space to avoid those knicks , but I hear you on that front.
Congratulations on heading to the finish line.

It is going to be sweet Gordon. Hope you're driving it down the road soon. Bet you felt the same way about the chips when it was painted 18 years ago too!

When I got my 76 13 years ago - I was afraid to drive for the same reason - I learned to fix the stone chips - and I have gotten a ton of them!

Good luck with the car my friend!

Gordon, you and me need to take lessons from John on repairing those stone chips. Sounds like an opportunity for a get together...maybe in June??? John knows of what I speak, I'll PM you Gordon to see if we can coax you to bring her to PA to join us.

By the title of the thread, I thought something was/has gone seriously wrong. New paint and new top, really looking forward to seeing it.

Awesome Gordan! I cant wait to see it.

BTW did you remove the interior? Mine is ready for paint but I don't want to remove my 4 year old interior which is 100% perfect....nor to I want it loaded with paint/body dust....Same thing for my engine compartment....its damn near perfect and I don't want it F'd up with paint/body dust, overspray, water spots etc etc...

A new paint job has been my biggest nightmare about owning a Vette...

I did not remove the interior so there will be dust on it. I just hope not to much overspray. The door jambs should not need any paint as it is thesame color and they were in good shape. There will be lots of cleaning when it comes home. Maybe I can get Jay (73jst4fun) to clean it up for me. He is quite the detailer and has detailed my car before for some work on his car. I need to put a rear spring and trailing arms on his car so maybe we can swap some labor.

As for not getting a detailed quote on the car I was not worried about it. I know the painter well. It is my sister in laws uncle and I have dealt with him before. I gave him pretty much an open invitation to do what is needed. My only mistake was thinking it just needed to get the hood painted. After 18 years it needed some work. Fortunatly I have the cash and this is not the issue.

Anxious to see it myself. I'll probably post some pics when I pick it up without any of the trim and then when it gets all back together and cleaned up. The top may be a little while as I have many other, non Corvette projects also.

Great Play - you tell the wife it's going in for a a little bit of work.

You tell the guy do what it needs to make it right! You know what you rally want - wink wink.

Car comes back - "Honey, it was much worse than I thought, once we got into it we couldn't turn back"

No harm no foul. Forgiveness = easier than permission!

Can't wait to see it.
