Coupe cars with unknown histories may have birdcages that are weakened and since that is a major portion of the cars foundation, it's desirable for it to be in premier condition, strength and geometry wise.
Well after sitting in my garage for 5 years I've finally started my quest to get this show on the road, its going to be a slow ride but I’ll get there.. Shortly after bringing it home in 2011 me and the boys sorted out the simple stuff like the wiring, lighting and radio and then started on the fuel system buy removing the fuel tank for inspection but then soon got consumed by a busy schedule that resulted in the project sitting for a few more years. Over the last year or so we have been tinkering with a few things on the car. We started with the fuel system I knew we had some issues and decided the best solution for me was to start fresh by replacing 90 percent of the fuel system. For some reason I didn’t get any pictures of the old tank but it had been patched up 2 times and the old fuel sender also had some epoxy around the outlet..here is a pic of what was removed. Even found a old Mallory Elc. fuel pump om the rear bumper to add to the mystic of the car..

This was the fuel line that was coming out of the modified 427 truck fuel pump... (you know you can save a few bucks on parts if ya don't say they are for your Vette)
and a snack for a mouse
I picked up a complete tank kit from Corvette Central to make the replacement smooth as possible and it did the trick for me.. I plugged off the return system as my modified system is return less
cleaned up the brace
I modified the hard lines with some Earls -8 fittings so I could run some of their -8 Pro-lite 350 fuel line plumbed in a Summit Big Block fuel pump installed with ARP bolt then on up to a summit inline filter.
Ill get some pictures tomorrow of the fuel pump upto the carb for you guys ..

This car may be worth more when you are done than what you will have into it. Buy it right, as they say. Good luck and have fun!

The Best of Corvette for Corvette Enthusiasts
Well I'm a man of big dreams and small wallet so for now they stay. I'm thinking about keeping it what it is... I guess you would call "period"..
The plan is get it started, get it stopping, suspension rebuild, poor boy body and paint, get the rest of the kids out of the house. and go from there..
Here's the fuel line coming up from the pump to the carb with the inline filter.. Please don't mind the mess
plenty of project going right now.It looks way more rusty in the picture

I like the suggestion made that, when you're finished, you take it right over and get your step dad behind the wheel and put the smile on his face.
You aren't too far away from me. I just picked up a '72 last week. The forum members are really helpful. There are a few others nearby too (Iceaxe and a few others). When it's running, we should all meet up somewhere.
In the meantime, you'll get to know some of the good vendors well.
Good luck!!
I reinstalled the radiator along with new seals.
From there I got busy trying to make the engine look as good as I can with out pulling the motor and spraying it... Stripped the paint off the intake, thermostat neck, and valve covers. I re sprayed the valve covers with some VHT wrinkle finish. and hit the neck, oil cap and breather with some low gloss engine black. ordered up some ARP bolts to be flashy also added a summit 14 black air cleaner with filter..
Currently working on the brake system, I got a full SSBC caliper set a complete SS line set, Russell Hoses and a New GM master cylinder. so far I got the new firewall gasket, master cylinder, and all but the rear hard lines in.

Almost for got got the ignition all fresh..with new points, coil, cap, rotor, condinsor and custom wires...
Anyways tons of work to go but still having fun.

that's really some $1 investment, lol. good luck with your project it's all up from here and basically having the cost be whatever you put into it at this point you are way ahead of the game. i do have one serious suggestion and that is whenever you finish it, take it back and give you step dad the ride he had always dreamed about taking in it. it will be a long time before the smile is gone from his face (and you will never for get it your entire life)!! that's a family event not to be forgotten! You have a great step-dad !!
Welcome to the Forum, nice car , good luck as you make it yours!!!
