Hi r44,
I don't believe the trays are being reproduced. So Load's tray may be your best option.
The tray fits very close to the underside of the rear deck. I'll post 2 pictures showing the hinges for the tray mounted on the rear bulkhead.
Yours could very well still be there. They should give you an idea of how much space the tray takes up.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan,
I don't see anything like that on mine! a friend said he had a (69 coupe) and he remembers using it often.. it must have been something that didn't last long.. then GM went without removable window.
Peace,
Frank
Hi Frank,
I believe ALL coupes had the tray during the time the rear window was removable.
The 68, to early 71, trays were molded pressboard and the leaking interiors really took it's toll on them.
Later 71 trays were molded plastic.

Alan

Hi Alan,
Your photos are interesting. In my 70 AIM, the carpet goes up to the top surface, and the carpet is cut out for the hinge brackets, and also just about completely covers the foam "spacer" blocks.

Rugerm44: purchase the assembly instruction manual (AIM) for your model year. The AIM shows the complete installation of the rear window, tray, hinges, etc. It will show you everything you are going to need and how it all assembles.
Here's a page from the 72 AIM. Other years will be similar but there are variations.
I thought the carpet stayed there and the bracket right on top. PAGE J135 in the 69 AIM shows a cutout only for the convertible. Carpet should go to the top and brackets right on top of carpet.

Correct.

Both of you may be correct for your model year. Actual installation of the bulkhead carpet could have changed between model years.
Hi,
The carpet in my pictures is the original.
As I said earlier, in a current carpet thread, I believe the 68-70 carpet went further up the bulkhead. The 71-72 carpet didn't go up so far (just to above the courtesy light), and had more pronounced 'tabs'.
I couldn't find any reproduction carpet with the original height and 'tabs'.
Isn't that a surprise!
Regards,
Alan
The early cars leaked so badly that it's rare to find one with original carpet unless it's a Survivor or BowTie car.

That is a surprise! that means all manufactures that make reproduction carpet use the newer or I'll say later models configuration.
what does the corvette NCRS say about this?
Peace
Frank
Hi Frank,
I believe that for NCRS Flight Judging, the Corvette Technical Information Manual & Judging Guide shows and explains the carpet variations for year and body style. So I'd think there would be a small deduction for 'configuration'.
The fact that the reproductions available aren't completly like factory production doesn't mean a deduction isn't made, even though the restorer may have no other choice.
I think many judges would rather see an 'original' part that may have a 'condition' issue, than a reproduction part that's 'new' but different in some way than the typical production part.
Did I answer your question?

Alan
2025 c3 ('68-'73) of the Year Finalist - Unmodified
I have always wanted to add this back on my '71. When I got the car 15+ yrs ago it was missing. I'm assuming a late '71 since its build date is mid May of '71. Correct?
Looks like I have a similar rear brcket to Alan's.
I have the carpet pulled back (repo) and I have not cut out the slots for the bracket like Craig has.
I have always been confused on how this all goes together and what type of front clip / retainer is used. Currently I have none of these pieces. Would it be similar to the '72 AIM drawing that Easy Mike posted?
Hi 1s,
The installation is as Mike's post indicates.
I'm unclear about when the transition from the 'spring clip' to the 'push button' took place.
I believe there's a slight difference in the tray itself too, in the hinge area, from the 70,71 tray to 72 tray.

Alan
