I replaced my wiper switch when I rstored my 76 because the slider was "wobbly", the new one is exactly the same, but I though I would use the new one anyway. It worked fine for some time, then it stopped "stopping". Slow and Fast speed worked fine, but at the left, it would not stop. Sometimes if you push the button in to make the washer go, then you wiggled the switch to the left a bit it would stop. So I replaced the original switch and that does the same
I have used a test lead on the connector behind the switch and when you ground it on the first terminal it makes the washer go, on the second terminal it makes the wiper go slower and the third one does nothing. Without the switch connected it goes on fast mode all the time.
Can anyone give any advice on fixing this or what may be wrong?
I am not great with electrical but the wiper switch I can tell you how it works. I rebuilt mine then replaced it as I thought it was not right. The first prong is for when You push in the spray comes on and the switch moves just enough to make the wipers come on. The second prong sends voltage to half the coil in motor to run at low speed, then the third prong sends additional voltage to the rest of the coil in motor for high speed. I would check at motor for voltage as switch is moved.
If your motor is running with the switch disconnected your problem is most likely in the motor.
Go to this link and roll down to the bench test and perform that test. http://willcoxcorvette.com/repairand...elp.php?hID=95

Well, the plot thickens! I have tracked the problem down to being too much play in the spindle that the wiper assembly bolts on to. The mechanism that parks the wiper motor was riding past too high to engage. I got hold of the wiper assembly and pulled it towards the rear of the car and it all engaged and started to operate normally. I could not figure out any way of adjusting this play, so now I am stumped
I am guessing that my motor is just worn out, but I live in hope that someone will say "ah just tighten that nut that you didnt know existed, and all will be right with your car"
