Default radiator and shroud

I guess my car needs more money. This week it is the radiator. Removing the fan shroud was nearly impossible, although I have done this before without the grief! Almost destroyed the shroud and the radiator removing them. Getting the new rad from Dewitts, but what about the fan shroud, anything new out there? If I go to an electric fan do I still need the fan shroud? Do not want to destroy the new radiator on the install. Anything to get away from this piece. Any ideas?

If you are already getting the Dewitts, get the one with the dual spal fans, no additional shroud required.

Hi 1,
Putting a piece of heavy cardboard on EACH side of the core (tape) helps protect the tender parts as you put it back together.

Alan

I have the DeWitt's with twin fans, and shroud is no longer needed. You can pitch the fan blade also

It's probably best to sell the shroud and fan to help defray the cost of the radiator and fans.

By the way, is yours a small block, automatic with A/C? If so, do you still have the shroud extension [4" wide strip that fits into the bottom of the shroud]? I'm interested in purchasing an original piece, if you still have it.

Yes Sir; On my 80 & 82 I removed the radiator first, then the shroud. Never had any problem with either. Yes I did the cardboard to keep from damaging the fins.. Gene

I went the DeWitts with dual electric fans in my 79 l-82. The new radiator went in a lot easier than taking the old one out.
