Default Help identify 1972 corvette

I am wondering if anyone might be able to help me identify a 1972 corvette and its history. I recently purchased this car and a few things have me thinking about its history. It has what I think would have been a fairly decent stereo system in it, at least for the time frame. Also the paint job and gold detailing of the vents etc. give me pause to wonder. The details of the car are:

1972 Stingray coupe
Candy apple red
zz3 crate engine 350
Automatic
Fairly well optioned with tilt/tel steering, PW, PB, A/C
Gold coloured plating of the side vents, hood and trunk vents
Rally wheels similarly gold coloured
I was told the car spent most of its life in California and then the last couple of years or so in Texas (Corpus Christi area)

Stereo - appears to be a professionally done system judging by the layout, wiring, fit and finish
Orion XTR 12" subs in a 3/4" plexiglass enclosure (took up whole cubby behind seats)
Orion amps - now these are engraved with "2 FAST AND SIR CHAMPS, 1972 STINGRAY 1994" - judging by the date stamps on the speakers I would guess the system was installed around 1994. That also fits with the engraving on the amps.

Any thoughts, a google search doesn't seem to lead me anywhere. I'm speculating it may have been a car that was put together around 1994 with the sound system and crate engine and then possibly raffled off for a charity or otherwise ...

Any thoughts? The 2 FAST AND SIR CHAMPS, 1972 STINGRAY 1994 has me thinking.

Thanks
Greg

The logical way to trace the history is to track previous owners. You may get lucky. I was only able to track down 4 previous owners and then hit a dead end.

Have you run the VIN# thru the corvette registry?

Looks pretty good from 50' away !. It has a big block hood on it and the 5th digit of the V.I.N.(vehicle identification number) will tell you if it came from the factory that way.
K = 350ci 200hp
L = 350ci 255 hp
W = 454ci 270 hp
The trim tag attached to the body, open the drivers door to see it will give you the original exterior color and interior color and if it was the standard or deluxe version.Also will give you the approx build date.
Good luck with your search
Regards
Roy

It originally would have had a 350/200. From the trim tag it was white with a black leather interior.

50ft - yea, any closer and the flaws hit you in the face. But, I bought it as a project, so all's good.

Post your questions on the Southwest Board. If the car spent time in Corpus, someone may have information. You might title your thread, "Questions For Corpus Residents" .

Just my 2 cents.
