The biggest thing, out of the ordinary, that I have to do.....is open the garage door first, then start up the car. Otherwise the fumes will bring me to tears, much on the same level as a gas chamber from Basic Training in Benning...lol
Hi A L 71,
The one difference from a new car I notice is that the gas needs to be pumped twice if the car's not been run for a week.
It always starts, but for some reason I'm still thankful each time!
Regards,
Alan
If the carb and choke are in good working order and adjusted properly, you only have to pump the throttle (to the floor) one time to start the car. If the weather is a bit cold, you may want to let the engine run on "fast idle" for 10 seconds (or so) before you tap the throttle to lower the idle speed. Then just drive it.
I agree. A lot of younger folks are not familiar with carb. operation. Stepping on the gas pedal all the way to the floor sets the choke. Turn the engine over and the engine will fast idle until you kick it off with a tap of the pedal again. Thats all there is to it.

Well I'm 24 and here's how I do it:
1) Take air cleaner off, spray a can of ether inside the boxy thing for about 6 seconds.
2) Put air cleaner back on. Close hood.
3) Start the car up and hold the accelerator down to the floor, keeping the rpms at 6K for about 15 seconds.
4) Put car in drive and go find some mustangs to race in town.
