I have recently turned my attention on fixing up my garage. A lack of space can become a challenge when trying to have a working garage at your home, I am constantly struggling to have a place to put everything and it can get out control very quickly. I was using sawhorses and a 4x4 piece of plywood for a work bench but wanted something better, so I decided to design a flip down bench. Here are the end results..
Thats very nice!! I like that ALOT.. On the PBS TV show "wood working" they showed a cabinet just the same size as yours now = depth also. They had sliding doors. It was made out of peg board and framed. The inside had a few shelves and then they hung up thier tools. The sliding doors also had peg board and tools where hung on them also. So you actually doubled your storage space for tools and oil cans or what ever. Here is my garage now. Took me a few months to get it this way.
The floor was the best thing I could have done!! No more stains, and just use a blower and everything blows out the door. Once a month or so you can mop it just to make sure its clean enough. LOL.
Wow your place looks great. The floor looks awesome, will that surface stand up to a jack on metal wheels? I also have 4 wheel dollys with metal wheels, I like to be able to push my car around. Just scared of gouging it up..
That is a super idea and it looks great. I got ambitious a couple years back and was going to replace the top on an old open type bench in my garage. After "The while I'm at it bug" got done biting I ended up making a complete bench with drawers and doors and a maple top. But for space saving ideas your's is the best I have seen.

I have used my jacks and jack stands hundreds of times. No worry what so ever. It's epoxy! I like it because I don't have to wear my shoes. LOL. I wear my socks because it's so clean. But unfortunately the neighborhood kids like it also to play on!! I purchased the kit from lowes. It cost me about $140 for the floor.
((Great looking garage! I really like the security device on the wall! ))
I use to have clear plexi on the door with vette pics behind it. But was tired of fixing it = warpage due to floridas humidity. So I purchased some diamond plate. This way I dont have to worry about cleaning/painting the door. The kids can open the door by pushing on the plate no matter how dirty thier hands get.
Thanks for the info Dan I was thinking about those interlock tiles for the floor but you convinced me otherwise. Better surface to work on, and less cleanup issues.
Great garages. I have an upstairs big workshop in the attic...25 x 25....and most of my tools were up there but it was awkward for working on the Vette. So, I bought a roll around cart with two shelves and a four drawer red metal toolbox and put all I need in it. A partial solution that has made life much easier for me.
I have indoor outdoor carpet on half my garage where my cycle sits, etc. The epoxy looks great.

Thanks,
Very nice setup, the benchtop looks like you spent some time building it, I like how you bolted down your vice, and that bar chair is cool!
Hi Alan,
The stainless steel hooks and eyes are so firmly secured that I can use all my strength and pull as hard as I can and they do not budge, I also glued them in after cutting the threads. Also, there is almost 0% down force when the table is raised, its center of balance is close to being perfect as the base is extended out slightly farther then the top.
All the weight is supported by 5 stainless steel door hinges that are connected to a poured concrete wall with a frame of 2x6's anchored by 50 tap con bolts and liquid nails. There are 2 hooks. one on each side, in case one somehow fails, and I do not see how it could possibly ever crash down without serious user error. In fact, I Think it could support an elephant on a tightrope...

One thing to mention, if you want a floor like "showroom gloss" then don't add sand grit. BUT the floor is VERY SLIPPERY when it's wet! I did my garage half and half. The side I park the car has no grit. I added the grit to the other side. If this part gets wet there is NO slidding on it. It still has some gloss, but you can feel the grit when walking barefoot.
Geez that thing looks nicer than my dinning room table.
I would not be able to work on that without setting it on fire from welding or scratching it up with crusty old vette parts.
The other good thing is that since it folds up you cant fill it up with crap that needs to be done like mine. My father always told me no matter how big your bench is you wind up working on the only clear 1 foot square space right next to the vice for some reason. As always, he was right.

:o I really have to clean my garage! Great job all !
I am in Coral Springs as well. What they call a 2 car garage here is a joke. More like a 1 1/2 car garage. I finally bit the bullet and got a storage unit. Now only the car I am working on is in the garage, which helps a lot with space issues.
