Default 68-72 front emblem question

I am replacing the front emblem on my 69. It doesn't fit flush against the car. It seems like the pegs are set a little to narrow, and I didn't want to try to force it into place. The emblem also seems thicker than the original one, even dough I bought the correct one. My question is, should I just grind down the inside of the pegs to make it fit? Thanks

You can try contacting the source you purchased it from. It's probably a reproduction and therefore may not fit as well as the original.

You can repaint the original also, or is it damaged? There's been lots of threads on this topic. No fit issues then.

Are you sure it's the correct badge? The gas tank lid emblem which is similar, will not fit the front.

The gas tank emblem is flat, and will not fit the front.

However, I discovered in my '69 resto that this is a part you need to spend a couple bucks on. All the cheap priced repros are absolute garbage, they dont fit, break, stems break off. Throwaways.

Spend the extra money for the GM part. You can tell by the price.

Thanks for the replies. This is the front emblem I got.

Is there a better one? The gas door emblem I replaced fits nicely. I haven't even thought about repainting the original ones, they are not damaged. I'll definitely read through the threads I found, but painting them will probably have to wait.

No. Easier to open the inner side of the holes a little.

The one you got from Ecklers is a repro. I just got one last year it was a genuine GM part no fit problems.

Hi a,
The reproduction emblem from a company called Trim Parts is a nice quality. Their logo is on their parts. Is it on yours?
By how much do the 'pegs' not fit on the one you have? Could you elongate the holes just a bit to make it fit?
Regards,
Alan

Is it possible that the nose of the car has been repaired and the shape is not exactly correct? Did the one you removed fit OK? If so, return the 'junk' piece you just bought and order a quality part. (or strip and repaint the one you removed....I can advise you on how to do that, if you want)

Trim parts makes, by far, the best repros. Should fit.

The old emblem fit perfectly. The nose hasn't had any repairs. I can push the new emblem down pretty far but I didn't want to force it. I wasn't sure if making the wholes bigger was a good idea, I am not stupid (hoping anyway) but working on a vette is still new to me and I am learning as I go. It wouldn't take that much of an adjustment, I just want to go about it the right way.

The back of the new emblem has the letters CMD, is that Trim Parts logo? I checked out Trim Parts website and it looks like their GM emblem is cheaper than ecklers repro? Definitely have to bookmark their website. 7T1vette, I would appreciate some advise on how to repaint an emblem. I will probably have replacements on the car through this season but would like to repaint the originals when time allows. Thanks everybody.

I had the same problem and ended up buying the Trim Parts version. Fits perfectly.
