Hey Les, any time you're out with your Vette and want people to focus on how good your car looks just give me a call and I'll come out and park mine next to yours. That way the Nitpickers will have a car with way more flaws to comment on!
Because many people are full of themselves and get no satisfaction from their own lives so it makes them feel better to **** on someone else's life, hobby, decision, results....
While living the Army life, it's not uncommon for peoples possessions to be far away from where they live. The responses are usually, "well I used to have one." Or "it's at home" but home is normally out of reach to be seen. Even had one person at a show tell me one time that he thought by the color of my turquoise C4 that it would have been driven by a woman. He's also the one that had an 83 in his parents garage. I believe it also had a three quarter cam and a Hurst 4 barrel carb. I just agreed with him as I walked around wiping the dust off my chick colored machine.
I think you have too consider it stupidity and envy. If people took care of their cars like we do ours they would know every flaw on them just like we do on ours. I don't let it get to me I just tell them it's 37 years old what do you expect.
in fact, because my 80 is my DD (i just got thru my 5th winter here in Toronto,Canada) i get both grief & opinions on wether i should be driving it , during the winter
bla,bla bla
its my car & its my choice
if i crash it , i'll go get another one
i got no wife, no kids & no pets & i can afford to drive a C6 or anything i want but i enjoy my old 80 , because i had wanted one , for the better part of my life & i made it happen

If my '81 ever gets to the point that it's not obviously in need of something major, I'll take all the nitpicking I can get. Right now it would be, "your brake system has no fluid in it and there is a hole the size of a quarter in your fender".
Some people are just idiots and, for want of something intelligent to say, try to demonstrate their superior knowledge of a subject. When I bought my 69, the first time I took it out I had parked it next to a vendor's shop. When I went back to the car a couple of gardeners were admiring it. Then one of em says "You know that right hand mirror is incorrect" like he's an undercover agent for the NCRS or something. It started there and has gone on ever since. My favorite, however, is when some genius notices that my Husky/Wolf mix has one blue eye and one gold eye. For people familiar with the Husky breed, that's a common configuration and there is actually no eye color standard for the dogs. They can even have an eye that is half blue and half brown, which one my dog's litter mates had. I always pretend to be surprised when someone points out her odd eyes. They are left looking like the fools they are.
I went to a local car show and there was a C1 there that was way cool. Believe it or not, I had never had the opportunity to really examine one, so I took a good look. (w/o touching, of course).
I dropped down and looked underneath to see the solid axle set-up, and the guy got aggravated. He thought I was giving it a critical eye. I explained that I was only curious, no offense.
Turns out he is a forum member. We had a nice talk and I got to hear all about the car and about him owning it since new. That car was perfect to me. A great car with a great story.
The correct answer is "We should all look this good and get this much attention at XX years old". Just walk away and let that one soak in.
...a woman once asked me what the purpose of the blower sticking thru the hood was.i said id have to take you for a ride to explain it to you.she jumped in and i nailed it for about two blocks, she exited and i said hey, my pass seat is wet, did you pee yourself and she said no i had an orgasm.what other kind of car can make that happen.

Boy, I wish I could have seen that car! I'm jealous. Don't you wonder what driving one of them was like? No big power as I understood it but nobody ever accused an MG or a Triumph TR3 of having huge power either and people had a lot of fun with them, Mini Coopers too. I have never seen a one of the first two years cars in person and hope to someday. It's like the unevolved baby that lead to all of what we all have nowadays. Would have been cool if he gave you a ride.

Thanks for sharing.

It was a '62, so maybe not as underpowered as the earlier versions. I don't know, he may have given me a ride. He was almost afraid to drive it anymore due to it's high value. I still see him around now and then and he is still on the forum.
one of the fellows who lives in my area just sold his '62 last year and regrets it now. I liked the tail end of the 62. Weren't those all still solid axle cars in the rear? I sure like my 76's independent rear suspension. Took it on a bumpy road on one of the national battlefield parks last fall and was amazed at how well the four tires stayed on the ground.
I was really thinking of the first vettes which were I think straight sixes with what, three caruretors like the English cars had in those days?
