I'd be interested too. My car was origionally optioned with it but it never worked properly. And when it did work , it would slow by 10 mph and then speed up and then slow down ..... Like a roller coaster ride. Are there any kits out there that would allow us to use the origional control button on the steering column ?
I think just about any of them would work with the original cruise button. You have the same "SET", "RESUME", "ON", and INCREASE & DECREASE functions on most of them. You will just have to figure out how to merge the new system's wiring in with the old switch. A call to the tech support on the new unit will likely get that job done. The wiring coming from the C3's cruise switch is a 3-wire cable that terminates at a small connector near the base of the steering column.
That would be the simplest fix. But, those old units are 'mechanical' and prone to mis-behaving. A new electronic module would resolve those issues. Either way will work.
Dakota Digital # crs-2000-2 this comes with the dash type mount (or remote) switch in stead of the removing the steering wheel and replacing the turn single handle. You will also need to buy a 6in cable that goes from the trans to the speed control .......it cost a extra $16.00 then I also changed the speedo cable to a 63in from Advanced Auto Part # 03158 $10.00.
I just put this on last weekend and am very happy with it.......I put the remote swith on the console with velcro just below the power window switch.
You can use an ohmmeter to determine what switch contacts (on the new unit) perform which cruise function. Then you can substitute that new switch with the existing one on your steering column. It isn't 'brain surgery'....they are just simple momentary contact switches.
