what would a numbers matching 1973 convertible in driver condition be worth. looking for a ballpark kinda figure. i was told recently i bought the car too high....and also heard too low.
i am sure this will have as many answers as there are forum members, but im still curious what you guys think.
paint chips
new soft top
hard top
80k miles
all original except the carb
numerous small flaw (not an NCRS car)
Hi bn,
An all original, except for carb, car, IS an NCRS car.
The NCRS loves ORIGINAL cars and is very lenient about flaws and condition.
IF it really is ORIGINAL it could have a surprising value to NCRS types.
I think some pictures and details would get you some thoughts on value.
Regards,
Alan
Yes, all original. I assume there are many small things like nuts and bolts that have been replaced. Most wear items I am sure have been replaced. The interior show it's age but is still nice. There were some mice in the console and the cars smells a little like mouse pee. The rear is original and needs to be rebuilt but is not chronic. All the bushings are due for replacement. The front bumper is a reproduction. It has been painted once in the original color and it's a 10 footer. A very unmolested vette.
I am at the classic crossroad with a car like this. What to replace and how. I'll start another thread about that.
the hard top is not original to the car. the bumper has been painted. the rear deck lid was replaced because the latch was broken but i have the original.
Just glancing quickly at the engine compartment, I see expensive stuff missing, incorrect replacement parts and signs that the engine has been gone over at least once.
Not picking on you, but saying that 'it's all original' is not quite accurate which makes it difficult to guess a value.

No worries. Just trying to learn. Cant it be all original and still be missing a few things.....all original just not complete ? What parts do you see missing ?
Smog system is gone completely ($1500+)
EGR valve?
incorrect intake manifold(?)
water pump originally from a truck
incorrect valve covers
strange breather(?)
chromed air cleaner lid
incorrect rad cap
service replacement wipers arms
thanks for the input. i forgot the 73's had the smog stuff. i have some of the parts you mentioned that are missing in a box. 12-15k is what i expected to hear.

If you already bought it, why are you concerned with what others say you should have paid for it? You'll always get opinions high and low no matter what price you paid. Somebody will always know somebody who found a much better deal, etc... If you're happy with it, that's what matters most.

Yes this may be true but from what I've learned of the NCRS is they're primarily interested in 'correct', not as much emphasis on 'original' as the collector market unless we're talking about a survivor. A survivor provides a sample to study, details on how they were built.
i LOVE it...i guess i am just looking for some ammunition for a few nay-sayers. its a base engine with a bump in cam. engine has 2000k on the rebuild and there is only surface rust from what i can see. i bought at 13.5k and will have 16k in her when done for now....someday will redo the interior....maybe a piece at a time.
on a side note...should i keep all the worn interior parts when they are replaced ? i keep EVERYTHING else in bag and tag storage, but is there any value to worn interior parts ?

I think it should be 25K ;-).
I'm prejudiced, since I have a 73 very similar except mine is a "body off". My frame / chassis restoration was 11K alone...
I have yet to figure out how these cars got so low in value. I'm invested at 30.5K and I'm not done yet.
