Default Dash Pad Screws

I purchased dash pad screws from Corvette America to replace the larger non-spec Bubba screws. Unfortunately, the holes are too big and the CA screws do not grab anything to hold the pad tightly against the center gauge cluster. What can I use? Anyone run into this before? What can you recommend to make this repair? Thanks!

I know, this needs paint too..

The AIM references a nut, but vendors do not offer any?

No sweat Happens all the time glue wall anchors(black) in the hole the car will then be easy to take of the center section because the anchors have a slightly bigger inlet for the Stock screws(to go back in ,making it easier). Also Auto zone has all the clip with the hole in it stuff also. Its really hard to get all the screws lined up and in the correct holes on the Very first try go ahead ask Me how I know that!!!ans I don't put the small nut at the bottom nope.I can do it I just chose not too.

Hi l,
Lon's suggestion is a good one.
There are a few places in the interior where those plastic achors work quite well... for example in the holes for the sill plate screws. Often those have been on and off a few times so the anchor tightens things up.
Regards,
Alan

These show up for 77-82 console trim panels, but will also work for you. Your stock dash panels have similar "nuts" under the vinyl covers.

Thanks Lon, Alan and Easy! I didn't want to add more Bubba fixes and do it properly!

You can epoxy the holes and predrill for the new screw - worked great for me in the center section.

Relax I think its only bubba if the repair sucks or does not look stock .and unless Superman is in your car you'll have no worries .
However I can understand not wanting to Bubba anything I just took off 300 dollars worth of parts in my engine area to put it back to stock.

They do offer paint the same color and finish I used model pin stripping tape over the chrome edge .

Sorry to resurrect this thread, but I have run into the same problem on my 69, and the AIM shows these nuts also. Before I start cutting back vinyl, do these nuts just snap in? The AIM does not show a part number, just that they are a part of the dash pad assembly, I assume they are available from suppliers? thanks

No part number because they came installed in the dash pad when the pads were received from the manufacturer.

Try peeling the vinyl back for access instead of cutting it.

Hi bell,
I could find no hint that those nuts were part of the dash pads in my 71.
I didn't cut the vinyl covering open, but certainly couldn't feel ANYTHING in the area where the screw holes were.
Regards,
Alan

Hi Alan, yes, I can't feel anything there either, but the vinyl is kind of thick, so If I can find the part, I will probably peel it back and have a go at it

Hi bell,
I believe the anchor Mike showed is used on 77-82 console sides as anchors for the screws. 2 each side.
ZIP Products SF-665

Fill the holes with JB weld, wait for it to harden, pre drill the holes, and insert the screws. Don't over-tighten and the JB weld threads will hold fine.

Got the parts from zip, and this was pretty easy. The vinyl is only glued on the top edge, there is padding on the side over the nut that is not glued down. So once the top edge peels back it folds right over. The old inserts were a brittle plastic that were cracked and broken.... They came out with a dental pick. Thanks out to Alan and Mike Some pics

Hi B,
Thanks for the pictures!
I had no idea the 'nuts' were actually there.
It looks like the new nut has more of a 'collar' on it than the original. Is that why the originals are so difficult to feel?
Regards,
Alan

Yes, the collar looks thick in the picture, but it is only about 1mil thick... Very thin... You can't feel it under the vinyl, there is also a thin foam pad under the vinyl that covers the nut,and it is recessed for the collar where the nut fits in

It was interesting the catalog had it listed as 77 up, and the part bag shows 68 up
