Base 350/270 motors drive great....They are just pitifully under powered.... They will get you low 15 sec 1/4s...... If you are not big into quick acceleration, burn outs, winning a few street brauls etc....You will be satisfied with a base 350....
You can see mine tucked back in the corner for its retirement.....148k miles and still running fine but.....194rwhp and 3.08 gears just wasn't my idea of what a Vette should be..

Hey with that hood we gonna see you at the World of Outlaws Sprint race at IRP ? (Id take your old motor it looks great).Hey I about blew my old stock arzsL-48 up the other day but I kept up with one of the newer Camaro on an on ramp.
Great. I'm looking at a '71 vert that looks pretty sweet overall, I'm just not so familiar with the 270 version of the engine. Dont' care about dragging it, more about the value holding (or better yet rising).
Hi rX,
Up until 1971 the 350/270 hp engine was the 327//350/300 hp engine.
This was a VERY popular engine in all manner of Chevys.
It offered a bit of performance with impeccable street manners.
It is NOT a screamer, but looks so pretty that SOME people forgive it's lack of hp.
Regards,
Alan
Don't think about making (rising) money on your purchase. I don't know if we'll live long enough for that to happen.
This is a 350/270 with a 1970 air cleaner and ignition shielding.
I love the way my '71's 350/270hp engine runs most of the time. It starts and runs smoothly, has good part-throttle torque for normal traffic, and gets 18mpg+ on the highway.
About the only drawback is that the power is only moderate when getting onto the highway; if I were to rebuild it, I would go with a more modern cam and heads to keep the low-end torque, but add some upper-rpm breathing.
