700R transmission shift indicator in C3

I was just having this conversation with someone. I have had my 79 for about a month and the PO put a 700r4 in it. He used the stock shifter and just adjusted it so 3rd is the OD 2nd is 3rd and 1st is 2nd. So I can't do a manual shift into 1st. When in 3rd it does all the shifts. For me this OK I can live without manual 1st gear. I had considered the kit Trae1976 referenced but, for now I will leave it alone.

The above mentioned adaptor kit looks pretty good. I've done 700R4 conversion on different cars a few time's, and usually involves some adjustment to the reverse switch, so the white back up lights come on at the right time. Maybe the kit addresses this.

Since I don't have a real need to lock it down in 1st gear, I haven't done anything to it. I works just fine if placed in 2,3,Od,N,R, or Park.
If you need to drag race your car, then you will need to modify the detent plate you presently have or purchase and install one for the 700R4.
