Default Quietest hooker sidepipe mufflers?

I currently have Sweet Thunder 2.5" inserts in my hookers. They are LOUD. I'm thinking about swapping to more of a sleeper setup (which is hard to do with sidepipes, I know). Anyway, what are the quietest inserts? Or at least something that is about as loud as a normal exhaust?

Thanks guys

The quietest are the reverse flows but they really effect peformance. I had them and switched to STS and couldnt believe all the power that had been missing. Doesnt ST have one size smaller?

Sounds like sidepipes are not for you.

I've got STS with no holes drilled and they don't seem loud at all.

Unless you get on it.

also, the Hooker glass packs are not that loud. I found the STS the best for all around performance vs noise. They are quiet enough to talk at cruse speed but can "make a statement" when you mash the gas.

Hi

I use the reverse flows for the biyearly governmental car inspection.
When I drove those, I need the RPM gauge !

The glasspacks are OK, unless you use the new glasspacks with the 2,5 " open tube in them ( max flows ) , those are loud.

I don't know if your sweet thunders would fit my pipes or vice versa but I have the stock reverse flow glass packs in the sidepipes I got from corvette image (Josh) on here. I have not even installed them on the car. I would be interested in trading my quiet ones for your louder ones.

I'm with you brotha I would love it if someone could post a link to the STS option. Mine are loud. Real loud, but love the appearance of side pipes. If I can reduce a few decibels w/o giving up My giddyup HP, I'm real interested. Thanks

Been running them for 7 years now. Listen to the radio, talk to the passenger when cruising. Great sound at WOT.

the reverse flows are very quiet. I used to have dual exhaust with magnaflows and they were louder than the reverse flow inserts. I will probably be changing the reverse flow soon.

my first reaction was that no one interested in quiet should be using sidepipes at all, but after some reflection i wouldn't mind trimming a few dB's out of there if it wouldn't affect anything else. to be honest i'm not even sure what are in mine, they came with the car. i really should pull them, imagine my surprise if I find out there is nothing in there at all!

Not looking to go stealth, just want to lower it a few decibels. I have sweet thunders and can't hear the passenger. I want the tone and attitude when I jump on it, just not when I'm in my driveway or driving 25mph

Have a look at these:
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/PTE-H3844/
$15
Looks to be similar to the "spiralturbobaffles" just shorter (maybe, didn't see a length fot the S-T-Bs).
Even doubling the Summit ones up you would only be at $60 v/s $200

First problem is those are 3", not 4". Second is they are no where near the quality of STS baffles.

I'm sorry, I guess I missed where the OP said he needed 4" inserts, I was just pointing out an option where he could save some $$$. I'm sure he's smart enough to order the correct size. As for quality; I guess I have to take your word for it since I haven't done a true side by side comparison.

I would give STS baffles a try, I just can't see paying $300 for something I could make with $20 worth of steel from Home Depot and a welder.

My big block 72 has the Hooker side pipes and came with the muffler inserts. The center opening is about 1" or 1.5" and they are very restrictive and not that quiet.

I bought the STS inserts last year, and it is a HUGE difference in sound. The car is much quieter at cruise, but barks a little more at idle and screams at WOT. The mufflers wer ea more mellow sound, but resonated, where the STS insterts have zero resonation, but pop & crack with the cam.

In my opinion, they are the best of both worlds.

Make your own. My friend Tyler made his own. He even made about 3 different sets, so he could tune the exhaust how he wanted on his Grand Sport.

Once you get the sheet of stainless steel, do a few dry runs to find out exactly what size diameter needs to be cut from it and the radius needed, find a guy with a flow jet plasma cutter, have them punched out, bend them, weld them to the inner pipe, then put the tabs on them to screw them to the side pipes and cap the inner pipes, you will wish you only paid $300 for them.
