Default Air filter screen - yes or no?

Was wondering what thoughts are on an air filter screen. Are there any benefits? Have a K&N filter that has a million mile warranty so not concerned about that but wonder if screen protects further from anything. Would think it negatively restricts air flow. Thoughts?

Thoughts? You've already spend a lifetime's worth of paper filter money on a K&N and will get nothing in return. What kind of screen where?

I like the look of the K&N and like the idea of not being disposable. Re: the screen something like link below. Trying to keep the the car original and I assume this wasn't original although Ecklers and others market it as "original reproduction"

K&N is not original. Original for your 69 is the well recognized (and beautiful) chrome top open element unit with an AC paper element.

Hi,
Didn't original L-88 cars have 2 screens?
A large diameter screen, (as shown in 69VF's link), that mounted in the cowl induction hood; and a much smaller screen that mounted on top of the carb with a typical wing-nut?
Regards,
Alan

I know K&N is not original and should have clarified. Trying to keep original but will make easily reversible cosmetic changes. I have the agreed beautiful chrome top open element unit with the K&N replacing the AC paper. My car is not a show car but want to keep it all original except like a side easily reversible cosmetic changes. Thanks

The diameter of that L88 screen is not big enough to go around the outside of your air filter. That screen sits "inside" the air filter and holds the air filter that is in an L88 air chamber in place.

69: A suggestion. Postpone the bling purchases for a while. Purchase any of the Corvette history books instead and learn about your car. Once you know about your 69, then you can decide what parts you may or may not want to put on it.

I'm confused. You've already installed a K&N filter element which will keep out micron sized dust and you're asking if you should, in addition, add a metal screen that, at best, will only exclude low-flying birds. Have I got the gist of your question correct? If I do, then the answer is NO. Just because that screen was an OEM option on some '67-'69 models doesn't mean you've got to have one too. It wouldn't fit even if you bought it. As was correctly stated, it goes inside the ZL-2 cold air hood--ONLY.

EDIT: However, if your intention is to run your car on a really dusty local dirt track, K&N makes a foam pre-cleaner that fits over your existing air cleaner. And they make them in pretty colors too! Your call.

Really wanted to know if the screen was original as it stated in catalogs and it was pointed out that it was original only for the L88 not L46.
