If its the plastic 'cover' over the lock plate, that is an anti-theft device. When C3's first came out, the doors were easily opened with a 'slim-Jim'. GM had to install those covers to keep the theives from stealing all the Corvettes.

Good idea, replaced both of them, real pain. Trying to be careful of the new paint job and still adjust all the door lock stuff.
I considered leaving mine out but decied to put them back in. I scuffed them up a bit but with some flexing I got them back in. They are there for a reason: anti-theft, rain protection etc. Why not put them back?
