I'm not 'partial' to that kind of modded body, but the car does have a unique "character". I think it deserves to be painted "Bad A$$" semi-gloss black and the eggcrate side grilles need to be replaced with some brushed stainless steel mesh. That same mesh might make for a matching front grille design, also. Add some 18" wheels and some Kumo's and the car would look as it should, IMO (for the 21st Century, anyway).

yeah I googled it a lot already and that's been no use...I was hoping someone might have pics from magazines or another older source..Google doesn't have everything. (actually it has very little info on older custom C3s)
I know this is an old thread, but I was just seeing if anyone on here remembers the red/orange car from that NJ 76 car show mentioned on here, or if anyone has any other pics, I really do believe that car may be the same one I am working on..Thanks.
Update! Well I have taken the car all apart, it's birdcage is being repaired yuck!..The rear end was Original GM style race panels (white glass) and had Eckler's filler panels..which I have heard is what Motion used to build some of the Spyders..the stripes that were on the door were the same as the 72 motion spyder vert, built in late 77..So maybe it is a Spyder..idk?..I'm still looking for a set of rear window louvers( which are missing) with 9 blades and one center support, not 2 like the Sundowners..so hopefully I can get a job again soon, so I can get some more work done on it..
Seems like you have a very interesting car on your hands. Wish I could shed some light on your search, but I have nothing to offer but my best wishes. I'm just now begining to learn a bit more about my car as well as it was a 2-tone car from 1980 and supposedly there were only around 80 of those built as a test run for the 1981 model year when that paint scheme was offered publicly.
Hope to see you out at some cruise-ins in the near future.
That is a neat looking car. You should definitely keep trying to get historical info on it. If there's a good story behind it, you may want to restore it to how it was originally customized. If it was just an enthusiast's pieced-together custom, restore it how you like and enjoy it.
