Like I have said in other posts, I have put a new crate motor in my 81. I have also eliminated the computer and have therefore replaced the carburetor and distributor.
I now have on lock up torque converter because the computer used to control that function. Am I correct in assuming that this will ONLY hurt my millage? Is there any other damage that can occur by not having the lock up working? TIA.
you might have better luck posing this question in the C3 tech section as opposed to the the general section, no guaranty, but it's the right place for it.
Trans temps will go up slightly. The torque convertor working the fluid is the biggest heat generator in the trans. When the convertor locks up, the fluid is no longer worked in this manner. Higher temps do shorten fluid life, in turn accelerating wear. You could add a auxilliary cooler or as someone else suggested install a switch to control the convertor lockup.
