Default What would you do?

Traveling on a 4 lane highway ( 2 going north / 2 going south) tonight
on the outskirts of the city, my wife and I were in the vette in the right lane going 60 mph. Speed limit 62mph. Very dark, lots and lots of rain (yes I drive it in the rain) . She's talking to me ..."Blah blah blah blah". I look in the rear view and a car that had been 1/2 mile back last look is now directly behind me. As I he swirves into the parking lane , then swirves back almost taking my right fender and at the count of 1-2-3 - the jet black- newer Charger is another 1/4 mile gone. He was easily doing double my speed -probably more. He was so close in the parking lane I thought he was going to take the mirror off - really. My wife was so wound she was almost in tears. Got her home now. Thank gawd for liquor! She's settled down now. Anyway I wanted to floor it , catch his plate and call 911. She wouldn't hear of it.

What really really pisses me off is its bloody dark out , its bloody bloody rainning cats and dogs and the bloody left hand lane is wide open for this dumb *** to take. Cikey I'm bloody assed pissed !

So - what would you have done?

Had I been smart I'd have done exactly what you did - avoid an accident and get my wife home safely.

Nothing worse than drivers so unrespectful that they take our lives into their hands

I'm in So Cal and the only difference would have been when he passed on the right he would have been texting

call 911 with the description you gave of the car and your mile marker location and let the cops solve it.

I do it all the time to drivers that act like that.

I would take the following steps:

1) pull off the road at the nearest safe opportunity;

2) call 911 and report the incident;

3) drive home immediately;

4) clean up the mess in my pants!

Conclusion: We know that idiot has little time left in this world. The only question is "Who else is he/she going to take out, too?"

Default Descretion is [often] the better part of valor.

As much as most of us would like to see the idiot nailed, some things are best handled by letting them go (or by calling the authorities). You might well have hydroplaned at speed while trying to catch the perp, and we'd be left wondering what ever happened to couperdecar...

FWIW, I had a really close one recently on a two-lane, where I met a car coming over a rise already 1/2 way in my lane. And, can you believe the moron actually pointed it at me and floored it? Thank God above the only runoff for a couple of miles was right there precisely where I needed one, or I wouldn't be sharing. Thought about giving chase for a moment, but quickly decided the additional risk just wasn't worth it.

Glad you and yours are OK. The tension from the close call will pass.

Hello Ron - $hit like that doesn't happen here in Regina, SK. Seriously now, you did the right thing - let it pass - the driver of the Charger is a jerk. Hopefully there was a RCMP further up the road to nab him. With driving habits like, it will eventually catch up with him. Bottom line is - you and your wife are unharmed. Take care - BK3

In Florida you call *347 and it takes you right to the nearest Highway Patrol communication center who contact the patrol cars in your area. Most state have this program but different number. Give the operator (dispatcher) your location and description and direction of offending vehicle. Calling 911 takes you to a different operator that has to call the highway patrol and relay all your info.

You did the right thing kept your cold and got your family home safe!

Most states use a *77 or #77 (both will work, I believe) to contact local police [in your present location].{ I think your call signal goes to the nearest cell tower which then dials the local police.} This is particularly valuable when on the road and out of town.

If that number doesn't work, call 911. 911 called from your cellphone will be sent to the emergency operator in your home area...because the cell phone is tied to your area code; but the operator can forward the call to police in the area where you are driving.

That *347 sounds like a hell of an idea ! Anyone know if Canada has anything like that? I thought about 911 , but this jerk-off probably had 4 off ramps into the city available to him in 5 minutes - at his rate of speed. Without a plate I'd think almost impossible to catch him.

This is the 2nd Charger this summer I've seen driving like a crazy man. The other was a bright yellow hemi powered car going highway speeds , weaving in and out of traffic down our 'main street'. 30 mph limit. If I see a Hemi powered Dodge Ram with a pushbars and mounted driving lights - I actually will pull over and let them go by too.

Sorry for the rant . I'm by myself today and still kind of shell shocked. I just needed to vent.
Thanks

Under the conditions in which you found yourselves, the only thing I'd have done differently is stop at a convenience store on the way home to buy a lottery ticket.

Every thing else you did was correct.

Glad it worked out OK for ya!

What's a "parking lane?"

You guys park on the highway?

I believe he means the shoulder.

To the OP, you did the right thing. It's over, let it go. You and your wife are at home and safe. It's not worth it.

...and not all Charger owners are nuts...
