I'm no welder but think I could learn with a little practice.. Would a 90 Amp Flux Wire welder with .035 wire be sufficient to weld new mounts the the frame??
Thanks for taking time to provide mentorship/feedback...
Yes, and look at the thickness of the frame! Very nice. Makes you wonder why the mounts are paper thin?
Wondering the same. If this is a 72 or earlier, maybe corrosion between the aluminum mounting blocks and steel? The rest of the frame looks VERY clean.
It's a 73 vert... There's a small amount of pitting at the very back and very front, but overall, very please with the "small" amount of rust on this bad boy...
Just finished sand blasting and light wire brushing for touch-up work on the frame... Wanted to be painting tomorrow, but will wait on the new mounts to get in so I can paint at one time...
Any tricks to being able to paint both the top and bottom of the frame at once... Is it best to paint the top, let it dry, flip, and then paint the bottom... Or vice-versa...
I have an engine hoist, but wherever I attach it to the frame will be hard to get any paint at those points...

The rule of thumb is 1 amp per every .001" of frame thickness.
I say it's marginal. 90A MAX flux cored wire + a newbie welder + vertical welding = a cold weld with little penetration. But if you're bound and determined to go ahead at least turn the frame on its side and weld horizontal. Also, heat the frame with an oxy/acetylene or oxy/propane torch prior to welding...not the bracket, just that area of the frame. Then hope for the best.
Thanks 69... If I can get an experienced welder over to the house, will the 90 amp be sufficient?? If not, then I'll just try to find someone with the equipment to come by and do the job professionally...
Rather than cut out the entire mount and replace, how about cutting out the rectangular pitted area and splice in a new flat piece of same thickness with a pre-drilled hole - less work in the long run and less chance of mis-alignment. Plus you can weld both sides of the seam and grind the exposed (you have to crawl under the car and know what you're looking for to spot it) side flat.
I would replace too while the car is apart. Some advice too....spend the extra $$ and get the frame powder coated. I went with POR-15 with a coat of semi-flat black and wish I'd spend extra for power coating.
I would make sure that you try to match the height of the mount as closely as possible when you weld on the new one. You may have to add or take away a shim or two to get it perfect, but if the hight is close, you can use the original shim pack as a good starting point.

I wanted to go this route, but have not found anyone in Las Vegas with an oven large enough for the frame, so I am going with POR-15...

Practice making welds of the 2 dissimilar thicknesses of metal...frame and bracket...in the position you intend to weld your frame. If you're getting good enough penetration, you're good to go with 90 amps and fluxcore wire.
I happen to know a Navy vet in Vegas who could do your repair. But I don't know if he has portable equipment. Couldn't hurt to call him. 702-578-0552 and ask for Mac. He and I frequent the same welding forum, The Slagpit. Tell him Navy Davy recommended him.

Well, I got the box with the body mounts from Zip, finally... Opened the box, and guess what, the knuckleheads only shipped me one!!!
Argghhh!!!!!!!!! My luck over the past week has been horrible, first VBP and now Zip...
Well, we're pressing on and I've decided that I will attempt the welding, so wish me luck... Here's the progress on removing and preparing the frame for the new mount...
I will probably wait until tomorrow to weld, so wish me luck...
