Well, here's the picture of the new mount on the frame... Sorry, I tried to cover most of my rookie (chicken ****) welds with a couple of coats of POR 15... It's very solid, but not the prettiest thing to look at...
I'll practice some more in prep for the other mount which is scheduled to arrive on Tuesday...
Well, Zip came through with "over-nighting" my missing body mount... Seemed like this side was much easier to weld...
The plan is to finish prepping the frame this week... Going to spray the Eastwood's Internal Frame Coating either Thursday or Friday night... Saturday should be the day to spray 2 coats of POR 15 followed by a good "wet" coat of Blackcote... I'll space these 3 coats 4 hours apart... Seemed to work real well last weekend on the trailing arms (soory, don't have pictures yet of the TAs)...
Will post pictures during the process... More than ready to start putting the chassis back together...

I recently replaced the #4's on a 78 with the body on. Because the frame mounts needed replaced also, I just cut them off, replaced the body reinforcements and bolted the new body mounts and frame mounts to them. Once they were bolted to the body, I raised the rear of the body slightly till the door gaps looked right and welded them on the frame. I didn't even have to loosen the #3's.
After several weeks of prep and repair, I finally got the frame and a few other parts painted yesterday... Very happy with the way two coats of POR 15 and two coats of Blackcote look... Will let it sit a couple of more days before lowering onto jack stands and putting it back together...
It's a 73 vert... There's a small amount of pitting at the very back and very front, but overall, very please with the "small" amount of rust on this bad boy...
Just finished sand blasting and light wire brushing for touch-up work on the frame... Wanted to be painting tomorrow, but will wait on the new mounts to get in so I can paint at one time...
Any tricks to being able to paint both the top and bottom of the frame at once... Is it best to paint the top, let it dry, flip, and then paint the bottom... Or vice-versa...
I have an engine hoist, but wherever I attach it to the frame will be hard to get any paint at those points...
Any suggestions???
Thanks
Rogman
I just painted my frame a couple weeks ago using my crane on the back of a truck that I use for switching bodies . I hooked one side of the frame and raised it up to standing height so I could stand and paint both the upper and lower sides at once . Sure beats laying under it . If your garage is high enough and strong enough , suspend it from the ceiling . I did mine outside in the driveway on a calm day. Came out beautiful and only took about 45 minutes. I epoxy primed the frame about an hour before.
1. Flux core SUCKS!!!!! I'm only a rookie welder too but my skill increased drastically when I switched from flux to gas.
2. For anyone who's searching this for advice later on... you don't need fancy tools to powdercoat. $100 for a gun from anywhere.
And I used a portable propane heater I used in my garage and did it 6" at a time. Sure it takes a while and I learned a few things about what NOT to do but in the end the results are very sturdy and glad I did it.
Edit: I've never used Por15... so can't compare the two. I just know I LOVE powdercoat vs. rattle can x100000
I was going to suggest to weld in a small plate with a hole under the mount. This wouldn't affect the shim count. But since you've gone ahead and weld a new bracket, that's water under the bridge.
I find it very odd that the #4 bracket is in such bad shape and the rest of the frame looks new.
I have a 73 and my #4 brackets were in better shape but the rest of the frame was no where near what yours is.
A 73 uses rubber mounts not aluminum, so that can't be the explanation.
Was the car involved in a collision and the shop welded on a used bracket. In your original pictures, it almost looks like a second set of welds were added later.
