That "3rd flasher" is for the Car Alarm system.

this may be the most interesting story of any car I've seen on here since I joined. I rarely read a full 4 page thread in one sitting. Pretty cool.

I am not familiar with "hone-o-matic". I did a quick google search and I think I understand that it is a two planetary gear set up, it also comes up under hone-o-drive. was this a Baldwin original thing? do you have a picture by chance?

-Dan

PS - I also bought my vette from an vet, but Iraq in my case. I have always felt good about it because he was selling to buy a house for he and his expecting wife. I still talk to him all the time even though I am in Chicago and he is in TX.

I wouldn't use AC foam unless it is certified fire proof. One back fire through the carb. and you could lose a car. Just my $.02.

Dan, I haven't had the car in the air yet to get a good picture. I have seen them on E-Bay, called Hone - O - Drive. Pretty pricey. It goes behind the trans, and in my case, it changes 4:88 into 3:42. It is activated by a lever on the passenger side of the shifter hump. Pretty ingenious for the time period. You can activate it while the car is moving also. Not sure if it was Baldwin-Motion exclusive, I doubt it. Thanks for the comments. Dave

Very interesting. Concept sounds like a Gear Vendors unit. Kudo's to the owner for ordering this car with all the best options.

Thanks for the positive comments! Thats one thing I like about dealer converted cars. Analysts don't tell me the upper radiator hose clamp is supposed to be at 2 o'clock, not 3, or there is supposed to be overspray on the intake manifold, etc. It is what it is. A cool car is saved, and the original owners sacrifice for us all will not go unnoticed! Working on the display board and will post a pic when it is done. His family is pretty stoked. I told them that he will ALWAYS be remembered when people see this car. Kind of a wake up call to all of us who don't have to deal with this kind of tragedy.

I gotta post a pic of the leather gun holster he mounted on the back of the passenger seat. I talked to his childhood neighbor / friend last week and he was pretty excited. He asked me to check for screw holes in the back of the passenger seat. I told him yes there is and there is a holster attached to the screws. He is the one who gave it to him! He said he wanted one with a snap closure, so he found him one.

My wife wonders why I remember the details of cars, but not anything else. Its a sickness.

pos72, thanks. I was told that after Dave's passing, his father took them off. I do know Motion did not install those controls. Dave bought a "kit" and a local garage did the installation. Thats awesome that he could drive it, good for him!

Thanks for posting this. I very much enjoyed reading about your car. It looks like the right person ended up with it, not just someone that wanted to show off to his friends and had no understanding of what he truley had. The history of this car places it well beyond being just a Motion car. I'm sure it will bring you many years of enjoyment.

Cheers, Doug

Doug, thanks for the kind words. Hopefully I get the vintage video of the original owner driving the car soon. I will definitely post that.

Beautiful car & great story. Having grown up a few towns away from Motion we used to see their cars all the time. Used to ride bicycles down there to check out the cars &

A friend of mine has a Hone-a-matic overdrive sitting in his garage. He was selling them locally for the manufacturer at the time. Only thing missing is the mounting brackets.

I'm sure you'll have loads of fun with the car

Jim

Thank you for posting this and telling the story. Beautiful car! I had never noticed the different mirrors. Who made those, anybody know? Sharp salute to the Marine and his family.

The mirrors were typically off a '70 Mustang or Torino.

If you think a slushbox trans is 'best.'
