Default What a shame

This is a friend of mines corvette that has been sitting like this in my back yard for over a year. Its really a shame as I doubt this car will ever get back on the road. Its a long story but he traded the GM crate targetmaster engine that was in the car to me. He said he had built another engine to go into it but now I have found out that is not true. The guy does not even have a job or any income other than trading and selling stuff he comes accross. The car has a clean title. I do not think he will ever get a engine for this car.[/IMG]

Looks like a very good starting point for someone. '82, I believe. Won't he consider selling it? It is actually in Florida now?

I hope he's a very good friend of yours because he may not appreciate you telling us his tale of woe and he may not want pix of his car posted on the internet.

How about giving the guy a break?

Why is it in YOUR yard?

Why is he lying about fixing it?

Why won't he sell it?

Why won't he put the hood back on, even if unbolted?

Are you thinking about helping your friend market the car? Looks like it has some value.

Its a long story, but I will try and condense it some.I have the hood in a spare room in my house becouse it had just just been painted when he brought the car for me to pull the engine. Our deal was he would give me the engine if 1.The hood I have in my house both tips were broken off of and it had a crack about 6" long in it. I built the tips back with fiberglass and glassed the crack and got it ready to paint. 2. Both t-tops needed stripped so I did that and got them ready to paint. 3. The fiero you see behind the vette I did a lot of custom bodywork to and a lot of glass work to it and switched out the entire rear section to make the car look like a GT body. I did all of that and got it ready to paint. I have $200. in just materials on the fiero. I had all that completed and a year went by and he still had not brought the vette for me to pull the engine. Mean while my camaro was just waiting on the engine. Finally he brought the car so I could do the swap. He told me he had a vortec engine built to go right back in it. Now a year later both cars are in my yard waiting on him to make a move.

He will sell it but he wants way to much for it. He is asking around $7000.

My car cover on the ground is on it,I just took it off for the pictures. I bought it for my camaro but the vette needs it more. I am trying to take care of it. I would give my eye teeth to own this car. Thats why it upsets me to see it just wasting away in my back yard.

Well, if he's a good friend, you will probably put up with this stuff for a bit longer. If he's a casual friend, call him and ask him to bring the engine or pick up his car & parts.

I he's just an acquaintance, tell him he's had long enough and that if he doesn't bring the engine and the money he already owes you and for the engine installation, you will put a lein on his car and, eventually, sell it for what he owes you.

Somewhere in there, you can offer to buy the car (for a price without engine) to 'clean the slate'.

He does not owe me anything,I did the bodywork and supplied the materials plus pulled the engine all for the engine. If he ever does get another engine for the vette I will even install it for free. This was all supposed to be a 2 or 3 week thing and now the fiero has been here 2-1/2 years and the vette for over 1 year. I kind of feel bad for the guy but at the same time I have my house on the market trying to sell it and it looks bad when people come to look at it and I have cars in my back yard that are not running.

You have lots of reasons to get rid of that stuff. But, you don't really seem like you want to do it. Are your "buddy's" interests more important than your own???

Friends like that often have other issues that go beyond just financial.

The longer his stuff is in your yard, the more it would get on my nerves.

2 1/2 years seems plenty patient to me. Perhaps to best way to maintain your friendship is to help fast track that engine?

Time to have a heart to heart with your buddy. He has it; you want it.

Good luck.
