Default Chrome front bumpers.

How hard, or more so what is involved with adding later vintage (Mines a 73) front chrome bumpers to a 73? Do i need a whole front end? or is just the front bumper and adjacent hardware just needed? I havent' had a good look at a early C3's front end in awhile to just check it out. Thanks for any help.

Earlier models have a lip on the hood surround which passes under top edge of the front bumper. I haven't seen a later model with the rubber removed. Don't know if it has anything similar.

Give Josh at custom image a shout, last time I spoke to him he said he was making a front chrome bumper conversion to go with the rear conversion

IF you want to do a correct conversion you would need an entire front clip (doors forward) as everything is different. Also, your 73 frame does not have the correct holes for the bumper brackets but you can just drill new holes. Due to all the needed parts it would be very high cost.

Hi 68OM,
Besides the considerable fiberglass and paint work involved, I think the cost of the bumper, bumperettes, 3 grill pieces, and all the required brackets and hardware, might deter some people.
I could certainly see doing it to a 73 that's been hit, but not to one that doesn't need work.
Regards,
Alan

I'll talk to Josh and see whats going on with that, I was afraid and def not surprised that it would be rather expensive. The car will be heading into the body shop here later this winter so I just figured I would look into it. Thanks again guys I appreciate it.

First, why would you want to do that to a perfectly good and unique 73 ( bias of course ) But the cost to do it right will be very expensive, and what will you really have, when it is done. Sinse the 73 being unique and basically one of a kind, makes it a work of art, all its own. ( again, being bias )

BTW, if you follow thru I might want to take that center grill you won't be needing off your hands.

no idea on costs, but Josh intends to create one for '73- up cars. Also, he is planning on making fiberglass-chromed bumpers for said item. These will be tight to the front nose, rather than hanging off the inch or so of the earlier factory models. Should be very slick.

Yeah i'm going to hang back and bide my time, i'm in ZERO rush. Should I decide thats the route to take I can re visit it at a later date. At the moment i'm more taken by the Resto Mod aspect of his wheel flares and so on. The original drive train and low end 350 in this car are already about to head under the microscope so i'll just wait and see what comes with the bumpers.

Edit: Before anyone wonders my intentions i've never been a fan of the chrome less C3's I purchased this vette from my neighbor where i used to live and the nostalgia aspect of this vehicle called out to me (Having grown up with it, learning to drive in it, and been my first ride in a vette) I just had to keep it in the "Family".

If u want a chrome front bumper car u sell your 73 and buy one.
don't cut up a 73 just to make it look like the previous 5 years of car

Search the archives. Adding chrome to a rubber bumper car pops up a couple of times a year.
