I thought about the many times. This is my 5th restoration / resto-mod. It is easy to think buy-new or repair old. I have to believe, in my situation, that the enjoyment that I get from bringing back an older Vette into today's world WITH (<-- KEY WORD) current technology is worth more to ME than a payment on a new Vette. In our club, (CCA) there are lots of newer cars that are beautiful! I would love to have a 2011. Just not right now.
Ironically, I just ordered 2 half shafts for the rear that are fully outfitted with bearings, parking brake, new hubs, seals, etc. Just add my x-drilled rotors and Willwood calipers this winter and ... I'm done? er .... no. Then comes the front suspension upgrade, then maybe the steering, then ...
I was totally happy with my '78 before I found this forum. I had a show quality re-paint done in 1993, and a 383 built in 1994. After reading this forum everyday starting about a year ago, I "needed" the Borgeson steering conversion, new exhaust with McJacks headers, distributer recurve, carb O2 sensor and re-tuning, new mirror T-tops, '79-82 seats with all new foam and leather, new stereo, new stock aluminum wheels and tires, 700 R4 trans, C4 blower and I'm sure I missed a ton of little things. I do like my car better now but you guys are killing my bank account! No more upgrade / make it better postings!
Here you go brother. This place will allow you to ease up on your Vette account a little. Welcome to the forum. I bought my second Vette through this forum even though I was just beginning a resto on the first one. I went to the Vettes for sale link, saw a beautiful 71 and fell in love all over again. Not only am I spending cash on 2 Vettes but am getting to the point where I need to add another garage to the homestead. But.........still lovin every minute of it!!! I will say that I have done things the right way through the info from the folks on this forum where-as things may have been more expensive had I done things the way I though they should be done initially. Welcome again and continue to have fun at the greatest place on the net!!!

I had a mad thought about selling my american muscle (camaro) track car and buying a slightly bent 03 GT3 Porsche, kind of a daily driver and a quick club race car
A good mate races GT3 cup cars, owns a stable of euro and american muscle, after talking to him and seeing his parts account everytime he get a shunt or has a brake rebuild, engine freshen up, I realise my corvette and american car habit is really not that expensive, even here down under where we have to nearly tripple the US$ cost of everthing we ship down here!
The beauty part of the Internet & the American Way is that you're free to make choices....if you feel this "forum sucks" then don't visit it! Go somewhere else....no one is holding a gun to your head and making you come to this website (or are they). I personally like this forum because it has A TON of helpful information, thoughts, comments and opinions.
At least his spelling and punctuation are correct.
I opened this thread to see what the title was about. After reading the post I get the satire, and I agree. I have learned so much more about my car because of this forum than I did before, but it does cost to get a better car.
For the person that posted a rebuttal without understanding the content, go back and reread the underlying message. From what I get from it is that the OP now has a better car because of the forum.
C3-PO......You have a pic of your 85 MPH speedo in your Avitar...A guy at the car show I was in today noticed mine and said a car that looks fast should have a speedometer that is higher than 85....I am swapping mine soon, probably to 140 since a guy here said he bought a 165 and it is hard to read.....I had already decided before today, that guy just reenforced it....

I never knew they had 85 MPH speedos. From another forum thread but minivans even have speedos that go over 100

Yelling is ALL CAPITAL LETTERS....I just merely bolded the letters..... And no, I did not know it was satire....I thought he was being serious....my bad.

You do realize that he as KIDDING and he is actually expressing *satire* !!
That just it, he's NOT kidding!!! It's a serious problem with this forum......., Last month, one of the moderators from this forum came to my house.........and he forced me at gunpoint to install new valve cover gaskets to stop the oil from leaking onto my headers!!!!!! Just last week, he called me on the phone and told me if I didn't order a new carpet and install it in my 'vette, he would burn my house down!!!! I'm scared...........
I WAS being totally sarcastic! I find this forum packed with great ideas and help at all turns. My Corvette sat (drove it less than 100 miles per year) untouched for 15 years. Now I find myself re-invigorated at the hobby. I forgot how much I love working on my car. With so many upgrades and ideas available here, I have my hobby back again. I drive it more, it runs and drives better and I have more pride in owning it. Can't wait for the next project.
